Sarah Kerrigan stood in the middle of an empty Danger Shop, wearing a simplified version of the Ghost armor. She had a serious expression on her face.

"Hey, kids," she said, "Welcome to Alternative Tactics, which is a pretty poor grouping name for a bundle of skills and knowledge you're going to need on the battlefield when you don't have a large army at your back and the bad guys seem to be holding most of the cards. Situations where ingenuity, resource management, stealth and superior maneuvering can save the day."

"I'm Lieutenant Kerrigan; I'll be your instructor for the duration. We'll be working in the environment I'm most familiar with. You'll find, however, that a lot of these concepts and skills will be of use no matter where or how you're fighting."

The Shoppe environment gave way when Kerrigan activated the program. It reconfigured into the dry asphalt tundra of the Badlands. She was standing on the rooftop of some burned out shops, holding her weapon gently.

"For the time being, though... You'll need some Marine armor for the course, so pick whatever color you're feeling," she grinned, "And have a look around. Get a feel for the sim. I'll see you at the end."

She turned around to leave, but then paused. "Oh, and you've got guns," she noted, "Point and click. Don't be an idiot and shoot someone. It won't kill you, but I'd rather not waste your time and mine reactivating frozen suits." Smirking, she hopped onto the ground.

Oh, hell yes. This was going to be a freaking awesome class. Rikku bounced excitedly and couldn't wait to snag one of those Marine-things. With its big-ass gun. Big-ass guns were always sweet.

Mikey allowed himself a moment to be concerned as to whether or not the big, heavy looking suits would cut down his agility. He was a ninja. He was allowed to be worried about his agility. After all, he already came equipped with a big, heavy shell.

Adam listened intently to the lecture and had a feeling this class would be very useful for what was going on back home. He'd have to send some notes back to Tommy.

Because being outnumbered and outgunned? Sounded like a typical scenario he and his friends found themselves in, all the time.

It's an empty wasteland. Mostly. Besides the occasional homicidal surprise behind an innocent-looking rock. If you get lost, there's always the mini-map (http://pics.livejournal.com/on_her_korhal/pic/000032yg).

Unless you forgot to get dressed in the fancy, bulky armor. Then you're really kinda lost.

There are very large animals roaming around here you can test your gun on.

Just don't shoot anyone, or their suits are going to end up frozen in the middle of deadrockworld and nobody wants that. Especially not Kerrigan.

Rikku was totally not going to shoot at any of her classmates, because Kerrigan was going to be Queen Bitch of the Universe one day said not to and looked like she meant business. Besides, that seemed kinda mean.

But it was okay to shoot at some of the rocks, right? And some of those ... ooooh, critters.

"Next order of business, though it won't be important for a while: SCVs (http://pics.livejournal.com/on_her_korhal/pic/000040w2). They're your basic worker drone. You can direct them to gather resources; there's also a panel on your armor that'll let you know if you've got enough to spawn your own units, but that's not important right now. Try working the SCV."

Listen, ask questions because Kerrigan's obviously not used to speaking in present-day Earth terminology yet, figure out the nifty Internet-capable note-taking PDA Kerrigan has installed in your suit.

Lee thought playing with the SCV was like having a pet...an unusual pet. He tried to get a feel for the controls and winced when the SCV banged into a wall. Twice.

"At least you don't have robot guts on," Lee muttered and tried to actually make the SCV do something more than turn around in frakking circles. Frakking controls.

First class, first sim. Just 'cause we don't want you shooting anyone when you can't even find the waste disposal on your own armor.

And yes, she will have trouble with it if you shoot someone. Might even toss you in detention if you have a bad attitude about it, so be warned.
