Library [Saturday Evening]

If anyone was to look in the right direction, they might have seen the lights on in the library. The door was unlocked and Thursday was inside. Friday was off safely in the BookWorld with the Bradshaws, both of whom had strict instructions about what to do if she didn't contact them by morning. That was one thing she didn't have to worry about, but it didn't stop her from occasionally glancing up from her reading to eye the door cautiously.

The group was a bit worse for the wear - torn, bloody, slightly burned, in one case recently revived - but also quietly and maybe not so quietly pleased with their success when they escorted a restrained Umbridge into the library to meet her maker. Or, at least, Zoe who was close enough.

Zoe had been waiting as patiently as possible for the group to arrive, and was pleased to see that everyone was still alive and upright. But any kind of happiness left her expression as she finally came face to face with Umbridge.

"So, you're the witch who took over my school," she said. "We meet at last."

"And you were the one who left them to me," Umbridge said, letting the last bit of pride and entitlement wash over her. "I think I did a very good job. I'm particularly fond of the blood, aren't you?"

"I'm not very fond of blood, especially when it comes from people I care about, as you made so certain that it did," Zoe said. "I suppose you're right that I did leave them to you, but that was a mistake, and unfortunately for you, I don't let my mistakes go unfixed."

"It was quite the sight, wasn't it?" Umbridge taunted, eyes wide. "Such a pretty color. Red. Did I miss any of your loved ones? If so, that's my only regret."

Thinking about John and the boys, Zoe pulled back and punched Umbridge in the face. "Well, look at that," she said. "You were right, red is an awful pretty color."

Her head jerked back and she tasted blood.

Again.

In a very ladylike move, she turned her head to the side and spit, trying to clear her mouth.

"I apologize for the blood stains in your office," she said, quite insane now, if that wasn't clear. "Perhaps you can shampoo them out."

"I would have you clean them, but that would mean keeping you around, and we have no intention of that."

Umbridge pasted a very sweet, very transparent smile on her face. "This school has languished under you. The students are insolent, disrespectful and unintelligent. You have teachers educating that have no experience. You have classes that will have absolutely no application in the real world."

She paused to take a breath. "You are not worthy of this position. I am."

Zoe tilted her head, considering Umbridge on an entirely new level of crazy. "You honestly believe that, don't you? You think abusing students is the way to run a school? The students may be a little crazy, but they're all intelligent in their own way. Every teacher has experience in what they're teaching, which is more than can be said for a lot of schools. And the classes might not apply to your version of the real world, but they do to theirs, and that's what counts. You're not worthy of holding any position in this town."

"I'm really hard pressed to even think you're worth of continuing to breathe, actually," John said, from where he was leaning against a bookshelf and cradling his shotgun.

Aly shook her head, looking amused. "And people say books could ever go out of fashion when libraries are so useful."

No, Roy didn't get it. He moved over to Aly, favouring his left leg a bit and raised an eyebrow at her. "Not exactly what I call justice," he murmured.

"Not a fan of imprisonment?" Aly asked, glancing him to over see if he was okay. "I wouldn't have pegged you for the 'string her up by her thumbs' type."

He may have been doing exactly the same, frowning as he took in the added injuries.

"It's a library. It's hardly jail."

She chuckled then winced. "It's special collections. It's...a weird type of space. She'll be trapped there in whatever scenario the collection throws at her."

"Trapped by books?" Roy asked confused, he stepped closer as she winced, trying to keep from reaching for her as he inspected the injuries. "I told you not to make me buy more bandages."

"It's more like a weird bit of a dimension, I think," Aly said. "You should talk to the librarian. She knows more than I do." She frowned. "It was difficult to avoid. Worth it though. Didn't help a bomb was set off two feet from me."

That explained the burns. Roy frowned and reached up to touch her hair. "She had bombs?"

"No, that was an accident, I think," she said. "Happens." She eyed him. "What about you? Though you were going to stay out of the way of the spells."

"I'm not nearly as bad as you," Roy argued immediately.
