Dealing With Stupid People [Tuesday, July 31, 2nd period]

"Today, you will deal with real people, so keep your eye rolling to a minimum, please," Josh said as the students assembled in the Danger Shop. "We will be working...retail!" he said, clapping his hands together.

The Danger Shop turned into a sandwich store of a chain that might be familiar to some of you, oh yes. "Half of you will be working behind the counter. The other half of you will be the incredibly irritating customers. Ask how long a foot-long sandwich is! Demand a sandwich with everything except most of the ingredients! Wonder why a sandwich shop doesn't serve Mexican!" Josh's grin turned positively evil. "And you customer service types--remember to smile. And, um, not to punch anyone."

"The chimichanga," Mel replied sharply. "It's at the Mexican restaurant up the street."

"But that's all the way up the streeeeeeeeeet," A.J. whined, sinking his knees a little to slump on the counter. "And Mexican gives me just terrible gas, you know."

"Thank you for sharing," Mel said rolling her eyes. "Get your hands off the counter or you'll be losing a finger."

He was supposed to be an annoying customer, right? And A.J. had had his fair share of those over the years at Empire...

So there he was, patting his hands with obnoxious ne'er-do-well on the counter and keeping a steady beam directed at her. Of course, it was backed with worry...a lot of worry...but it was class, right? She couldn't really do anything to him. But he just might be avoiding her outside of class for all of eternity after this.

"Sooooooo... you just going to stand there or are you going to order?" Mel asked impatiently.

Yes. She was definitely into the role.

"What do you have that's fat free?" A.J. asked. Still patting the counter with his hands. He felt like he was five again. It was fun.

Well, they weren't off the counter, but at least A.J. stopped moving them?

"Is that all? That isn't a very promising offering in today's health-conscious society."

"That's it!" Mel snapped. "No sub for you! No come back one year!"

"Oh yeah?!" Mel said defiantly.

She slapped her hand on the counter.

"Banned for life! No sub for you! Go!"

"I want to speak your your manager!"

A.J. met her slap of hands on the counter. Oh-so-menacingly.

"Fine!"

Mel stomped into the back room.

Five minutes later she had returned with bristles from a broom taped to her face in a poor attempt to disguise herself with a mustache.

"I am zee manager! No Sub for you! Go!"

And A.J. just lost it. He couldn't help it. The laughing came out of him before he could stop it, and any attempts to stop it only made it worse.
