Dealing with the Opposite Sex, Friday, Period 2, Class #2

This morning, Vala was clutching a cup of coffee like it was a lifeline. More coffee and an assortment of danishes were also set out. Students would probably notice the stitched scar on her face, as well as the one on her arm. Both were dinosaur-inflicted, but she wasn't overly bothered by them.

"Good morning," she yawned and gave a listless wave, "Today we'll be discussing the opposite sex. Which, since this is the title of the class, you can't say is a big surprise."

"Before we can develop a plan of attack and help you get over the stark terror of stepping into the dating pool, I'd like you to make a list of what scares you, confuses you, or annoys you about the opposite sex. Then I would like you to pair up--with someone of the opposite sex--and trade lists. Hopefully a lively discussion will ensue. Try to help them understand the differences, if you can."

Another yawn. "Please hand in all lists at the end of the discussion to either myself or Jack, so that we can decide how to better structure the class for the rest of the summer."

Jaina started by writing Boys can be IDIOTS.

But she decided she could expand on that.

1. They don't keep up to speed on the maturity levels.
2. Not the best communicators.
3. The shy ones really should just say something. We don't bite (but if we do, maybe you should try another girl).
4. Ego.
5. Boys can be IDIOTS.

Valentine's list consisted of things like bunny slippers, save-the-world quests, bouncing, hugging, and ... bunny slippers, again. They were confusing.

It was hard to tell if Chad was working on his list, or staring into space. But, considering he had one after a while, it might have been a combination of both.

1. Confuses: Why Teddy doesn't like them.

(It took Chad a while to think of something to follow that one; his thoughts were specifically trapped around Nadia, Pippi, and Orihime, and they didn't confuse them very far beyond that first one.)

2. Confuses: Why they have to be so cute.
3. Annoys: That they can get me to do practically anything

(Ahem, cheerleading).

4. Confuses: Obsession with boykissy. Especially pretty boy kissy.
5. Scares: They could break their backs with those things sometimes. :(

(That last one was extremely Orihime-centric.)

Roxas has a list of five things that confuse him about girls - girls don't scare him, and he's too emo to be annoyed easily.

It's a somewhat sooper-sekrit list, however. He's guarding it with his very life.

Or, well. His very hand. Mostly, it contains things about the way they act around cute boys.

Sam wasn't sure whether or not to make his list secret.

1. Using beauty products: Why do girls have so many? Why do some girls insist on using multiple products at the same time? Why do some girls insist on wearing fragrances when they smell just fine all on their own?

2. Going to the bathroom in pairs: Unless there's a rumor that something in the bathroom is eating people, I don't understand the need for this practice. What do women do in there together? Are guys allowed to know?

3. Insisting on being oh-so-strong: I'm totally fine with girls who could conceivably lay me out in a fight. But if I see those same girls carrying, say, multiple boxes of heavy stuff, and I offer to carry some of them, why do they assume I'm trying to be mean and misogynistic and not, you know, helpful?

4. Insisting on being not-so-strong: I will never understand girls who do nothing but talk about how strong and awesome and ass-kicking they are, and then, when they get the slightest injury from a ghost/demon/zombie/etc., spend the rest of their time whining about not getting rescued/saved/protected properly.

5. Refusing to make the first move: I know it's tradition for guys to make the first move, but some of us them are great big chickens who freeze up in the mere presence of a pretty girl, and if the girl doesn't make the first move, nothing will happen. Why don't more girls understand that?

5a. Going to the bathroom in pairs: It's so confusing, I need to list it twice.

Robin tapped his head with his pen for a moment.

1. (Scares/Annoys)They're violent. Or is that just Miss Piggy?

2. (Confuses/Annoys)Do they ever admit anything is their fault? He was thinking of his many sisters on that one.

3. (Annoys)They seem to prefer guys who are taller than I am.

4. (Annoys)They can be bossy. Even when Mom so did not say they were in charge.

5. (Annoys/Confuses) What is it with some girls and bad boys/jerks?

IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT THUS FAR, NONE OF THE GIRLS I'VE MET HERE FIT INTO THESE CATEGORIES.

Robin felt that disclaimer was necessary if he was gonna be sharing this list. He didn't want to offend anyone.

Find someone with whom to trade lists and discuss them, or boggle at the confusion.

If there's no one of the opposite sex around, obviously, please ping someone of the same sex. Anyone left over gets to deal with Jack or Vala.
