Now that the sinkhole's been filled in and smoothed over, there's some cement-work to be done pretty much right on top of it. Not that Xander looks like he's getting Sunnydale flashbacks about that; the thoughtful frown is entirely unrelated. Really.

"The truck did the big parts of it," he says, "But there's paths for a sidewalk laid out that you guys can pour." He points to a small cement mixer, in fact the one that was used to make sure those pesky stones remain in place beneath their feet.

And then there's a safety lecture. You knew there would be.

Phoebe figured that Cole wouldn't frown at her for leaving the rooms when she was bringing him food stuffs.

Even with his eyes closed Cole sensed Phoebe approaching. He listened to her footfalls and turned his head and opened his eyes, watching her walk. "How are you feeling, sweetheart?" he said.

She smiled at him. "I'm alright... and I figured after lunch I'd go have James check me over so you can feel better."

"Good," Cole said, nodding. "If he yells at me for not bringing you to the clinic it's all your fault." He made a face at her.

She stroked his cheek gently. "No, he won't yell at you. He knows that I don't like Dr. Troy for far too many reasons."

"He's a jackass," Bel muttered.

"And I don't want him touching you," Cole growled, reaching up and possessively pulling Phoebe down on top of him. Carefully, of course, to make sure he didn't hurt her leg.

She leaned into him. "I don't want him to, either."

Cole wrapped his arms around Phoebe. "I left a mark for us on the school," he said.

Cole sat up and took her hand, leading her to the out of the way area to show her what he'd done. It was small and very inobvious to the casual passer-by; you had to know what you were looking for to see it.

Phoebe's eyes lit up and she pulled his face down to kiss him. "I love you."

"Love you, too," Cole grinned, kissing her back.

Phoebe beamed up at him. "I want to get a photo of that before we leave."

"I'm sure that can be arranged," Cole said. "Put those photography skills Veronica taught me last summer to use."

Cole looked Phoebe over again. "Are you sure you can make it into town alone? Do you want me to shimmer you there?"

Phoebe smiled at him, hugging him again. "No, I'll be okay, sweetheart. I'll go slow and if it hurts, I'll stop."
