From the library to the construction site - Sunday Evening

They knew why the dinosaurs were here. They had a book with an illustration for how things needed to be set up to send the dinosaurs away. They even had an unconventional adventuring party to get the job done. Now all they needed to do was get past the dinosaurs, get down the hole and finish this.

"Can't you hold them back with your godly powers?" Fraser asked, looking at Hades. "Do they work that way?"

"Oh do be serious, Hades," she told him, with a sort of fond exasperation. "We'll all have to work together to fix this, which means godly powers may be a necessity. Unless they simply don't work against dinosaurs?"

[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com 2007-07-16 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
Fraser started snickering at that last comment. "I bet that's it. They don't work."

[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com 2007-07-16 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
Fraser, just because he was feeling a little snarkier than usual (which, for Fraser, meant he was feeling HUGELY snarky) said, "Your hair's out."

Harriet fell into step beside Fraser. "Now that wasn't very nice," she said, trying to hold back a smile. "He did react quite beautifully, though."

"I know, I'm quite upset with myself for saying that," Fraser said even though he was grinning. "I'll make it up to him somehow."

[identity profile] idontlooktired.livejournal.com 2007-07-16 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
"I think he'll survive," Harriet replied, and that smile might be sneaking out and turning into a grin. "Somehow I doubt our illustrious vice-principal has a fragile ego. He rather reminds me of somebody, actually."

"You've known someone like Hades before?" Fraser frowned. "You poor woman."

[identity profile] idontlooktired.livejournal.com 2007-07-16 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
"Mr Fraser, you have no idea," she said, with a very small laugh.

[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com 2007-07-16 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
"I cannot believe that just the small disruption of some stones set this all off," Fraser said, sobering up. "I will take full...almost full responsibility."

[identity profile] idontlooktired.livejournal.com 2007-07-16 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
"No, Mr Fraser, you will not." Harriet's voice was very firm. "The hole was caused by a natural geographical weakness, disturbed by the necessary activity of rebuilding the school. You went down into it in order to make sure it was safe to continue that rebuilding. Disturbing the stones was an unfortunate accident and nothing more," she finished. "One which we will now put to rights."

"I really can't argue with that," Fraser said. "Vice Principal Hades, would you be able to jump us all down there or should we rappel?"

[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com 2007-07-16 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
"Miss Jones, care to assist so I don't do this incorrectly?"

[identity profile] idontlooktired.livejournal.com 2007-07-16 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
"Absolutely." She did wonder why Hades hadn't simply done that straight from the library, though. "Let's see now." She opened the book, frowning thoughtfully at the illustration. "I think that one goes there, and the other," she held it so Fraser could see it, "there do you think?"

[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com 2007-07-16 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
"I think you're right." He knelt down in front of the stones and slowly and carefully started rearranging them as per the illustration. "I'm handling these like their bombs."

[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com 2007-07-16 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
"And your hair's out again," Fraser muttered, situating a few more of the rocks.

[identity profile] idontlooktired.livejournal.com 2007-07-16 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
"It's rather disturbing how that keeps happening," Harriet said innocently, and crouched down, nudging one of the rocks slightly to the left. "Any chance of cementing these into place when we're finished?"

[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com 2007-07-16 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
"If these can be cemented without being disturbed, I'll look into it," Fraser promised, just about finished with the rocks.

[identity profile] idontlooktired.livejournal.com 2007-07-16 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
"It would be nice if this never happened again," she told him, humming a little under her breath as she studied the illustration. "I think," she touched one rock, then another, and readjusted them the tiniest bit, "I think we're just about done."

[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com 2007-07-16 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
"I hope that's done it then," Fraser said, looking around. "I thank you both kindly for your help. I suppose we should go see the damage that might have been caused?"

[identity profile] idontlooktired.livejournal.com 2007-07-16 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
"It was my pleasure," Harriet replied, looking pleased. "That sounds like an excellent idea. And we should stop by the library, let them know and return the book, and when we're done with that, I'll make you both a nice cup of tea."
