Library - 7/10

It was too hot for a coffee, so this morning Isabel had a frozen smoothie when she opened the library. On time.

"Uh, well..." he shifted his weight from foot to foot, looking rather embarrassed.

"Promise not to laugh?" he requested sheepishly.

"Alright, I can trust that." He grinned, and then leaned closer so as to quietly inform her what he was looking for.

"Gothic Romance novels. Do ya have any--here, I mean?"

There, it was out. Nothing wrong with a young man reading trashy romance novels that normally attract middle school girls with lots of black and too much make-up. Nothing at all.

John let out a great sigh of relief and followed after her.

"Desmesnes is pretty good taste, but I'm lookin' for somethin' by Sara Jane Allfire. She's really popular where I'm from, and I didn't get to bring any of my books with me here." He was impressed by the selection he'd seen so far, and very grateful by Isabel's reaction.

Of course, his day would be made if they had any of his Allfire's old stuff. It'd get the creative juices flowing again. Maybe.

"John Allerdyce," he said with a nod in greeting.

"I'm originally from Sydney, but I got...transferred to New York. Oh, and I'm from the year 2000. I was a bit disappointed with Y2K; I had a bet on the Apocalypse." He shrugged and started scanning the rows for a familiar spine.

He let out a little "Aha!" of triumph when he pulled out an old favorite.

"'The Devil's Gamble.' A personal favorite of mine, and the author's best--so far. I heard she was working on a new, but hit a snag." A bitter look passed over his face as he thought back on his battle with the Word Cruncher this morning.
He shook the memory off and handed it to Isabel.

"I suggest this one if ya wanna dive into Allfire's work." He beamed with what could be misconstrued as pride or joy at having someone to share an interest with.

"Hold on, lemme check." He gave his head sound rapping, and shook it back and forth. "Nope, not anymore than usual. I'm pretty used to weird things. I used to room next door to homocidal kitty-man who had a very unhealthy obsession with Cap'n Crunch."

John shook his head while snagging another Allfire book--"The Necrowombaticon," a dark comedy--as well as a Desmesnes from below.

"Nah, s'all yours, Izzy. Can I call ya 'Izzy?' I can't ever be happy unless everyone I meet has got some kinda nickname."

"I wish I were," he repressed a shudder at the memory of Sabertooth in the morning.

"Alrighty then, Izzy," he gave her a grin and a nod. "I'll just get these two checked out an' leave you to your work. And maybe I'll see you around sometime."

[It's cool. RL just called me in, and I gotta go too. Plus, there's that midnight showing of HP and OOTP tonight that I'm attending.]
