Library - 7/10

It was too hot for a coffee, so this morning Isabel had a frozen smoothie when she opened the library. On time.

Isabel has the duster and is dusting ~~dancing~~ through the aisles with her iPod.

Karal came into the library, carrying a leather-bound notebook, and stopped, looking around. "Isabel?" he called. "Are you here?"

Fortunately she only had one ear piece in, so Isabel heard him. "Morning Karal," Isabel said as she came out of the stacks.

He smiled when he saw her. "Good morning, Isabel. How are you this morning?"

Still sort of facepalmy about radio but Isabel had a feeling Karal didn't need to hear that. "I'm fine. Did you write your letter?'

This time his smile was shy and he pulled a piece of paper, covered in beautifully perfect handwriting, out of his notebook and held it out. "I did, this morning. You are sure it won't be any trouble to put it into the computer and send it?"

"God, your writing it gorgeous," she said, taking the letter and heading over to the desk. "It will take all of six minutes. And half of that will be waiting for the scanner to warm up."

"I am trained as a scribe, so my handwriting must be perfect. Though writing in English was a challenge." He eyed the computer warily as they approached it. "I generally use Karsite hieratic script, which is very different."

"It sounds difficult," Isabel nodded. The scanner beeped and she set the letter down. A minute later the scan was complete and Isabel had opened the email program. "Do you want to log in?"

Karal made a face at the computer but nodded. "Yes, I had better. And it is not, it is actually quite simple. One symbol represents a word or a concept, so it makes note taking far quicker." Karal's approach to typing was two fingered, but he did log in. "What is next?"

"It sounds like Chinese then," she nodded. "It's pretty to look at but I can't imagine ever understanding it." Isabel pointed at an icon. "You want to click on that, and when the email opens, you'll want to type in Molly's email address in the to line."

"I'm not certain if it is pretty, but it is useful. Molly, however, does not read it." He was awkward with the mouse, but did as she said, then typed in Molly's email. "There."

Isabel watched to make sure he didn't make any mistakes. "Okay, do you want to type in any message here? Or just attach the real letter?"

"It would be rude to simply send it empty." With great care, he typed a short message, then looked expectantly at Isabel. "How do we attach it?"

"Okay, let me drive," she said, reaching for the mouse. "And watch what I do."

Slowly enough so that Karal could watch, Isabel attached the scan of his written letter to the email. "Now all you need to do is hit send."

He retrieved the mouse and did so, then grinned happily at the screen. He was not overly find of computers, but he could appreciate the quick delivert. "Thank you, Isabel."

"Anytime," Isabel smiled. "But can I make one small suggestion?"

"Of course!"

"Save the letter and actually give it to her when you see her," she suggested. "Sometimes it nice to have something to hold on to."

"I," he glanced down at his hands and smiled, looking a little shy, "I was going to."

Isabel thought he looked adorable. "Good. She'll like that."
