Redemption: What A Crock [Period 6, Monday]

After the class had assembled Ares leant back and considered them thoughtfully.

"Now, I assume you have all chosen to take this class because you have some ideas about the concept of redemption, and you either agree with my take on it being a fallacy at best, and deliberate con at worst, or you wish to convince me of the error of my ways. Just so you know, the second's never going to happen."

"Now, rather, so starting from next week we will be playing out various scenarios to show, just how the world conspires to keep the average idiot redemption seeker down, but for now, we'll just start with something small and have you introduce yourself and tell me why you took the class. Also, if you've ever down anything you feel you need to redeem yourself for."

"Oh, and Skywalker? You're the TA."

"Hello, all!" Andrew turned and gave the class a little wave. "I'm Andrew Wells. I'm going to be a junior next year. And I, um... I've just always been fascinated with the idea of redemption. I mean, it's a pretty major theme in comic books and fantasy novels and stuff like that. Yeah." Andrew looked thoughtful. "That's about it, I guess."

"Oh, all kinds of ways. Personally, I don't think it's nearly as good as, say, a revenge story line. But redemption is good for dark, mopey plots and story arcs. And it's always nice to think that your favorite evil villain has some small spark of good buried deep down that will suddenly bloom out at a critical moment and stop the world from ending." Andrew nodded emphatically.
