Redemption: What A Crock [Period 6, Monday]

After the class had assembled Ares leant back and considered them thoughtfully.

"Now, I assume you have all chosen to take this class because you have some ideas about the concept of redemption, and you either agree with my take on it being a fallacy at best, and deliberate con at worst, or you wish to convince me of the error of my ways. Just so you know, the second's never going to happen."

"Now, rather, so starting from next week we will be playing out various scenarios to show, just how the world conspires to keep the average idiot redemption seeker down, but for now, we'll just start with something small and have you introduce yourself and tell me why you took the class. Also, if you've ever down anything you feel you need to redeem yourself for."

"Oh, and Skywalker? You're the TA."

[ooc: wait for OCD is up!]

"Uh, hey. I'm Dick Casablancas. I'm going to be a senior next year." he withheld the urge to shout 'SENIORS RULE!' "And I'm taking this class 'cause I happen to agree with Ares. Redemption is stupid. The little blonde detective person you had supposedly wronged is just going to hold the "bad" stuff you did over your head for the rest of your life."

"Hi, I'm Lana Lang. I'm going to be a senior, too, and, well, I was put in this class by mistake and they won't let me switch," she said hesitantly. "But, I'm sure that it will be... very interesting."

Lana smiled at him hopefully. "Oh, that's very nice of you to say."

"Hello, all!" Andrew turned and gave the class a little wave. "I'm Andrew Wells. I'm going to be a junior next year. And I, um... I've just always been fascinated with the idea of redemption. I mean, it's a pretty major theme in comic books and fantasy novels and stuff like that. Yeah." Andrew looked thoughtful. "That's about it, I guess."

"Oh, all kinds of ways. Personally, I don't think it's nearly as good as, say, a revenge story line. But redemption is good for dark, mopey plots and story arcs. And it's always nice to think that your favorite evil villain has some small spark of good buried deep down that will suddenly bloom out at a critical moment and stop the world from ending." Andrew nodded emphatically.

"I'm Luke Skywalker," Luke began, "I'm a senior, apparently the TA...and I took this class because I disagree with the basic premise but I need to learn to understand all sides of an issue."

Frown.

"No matter how misguided."

Luke had a bad feeling about this.

"I believe in redemption," he said quietly.

"I'm Dawn Summers," she gave a little wave to everyone else, strangely relieved to see Andrew in there--maybe he'd be able to learn the lesson well enough to not need redemption. "Um, I'll be a senior, and I'm here because I know a lot of people who have had to redeem themselves, even if they didn't really want to or believe in it, and I wanted to know more about it."

"On some of them, yes," she nodded, "but not everybody."

Teddy waved a touch nervously to the class. "Hi, I'm, uh, Teddy Altman. I'm going to be a junior this year and I'm in the class because..." He sighed. "Because if there's no such thing as redemption, I think we're all pretty much screwed."

"Hi, I'm John Sheppard. I'm gonna be a junior in the fall," John smiled at the people he knew in the class, trying not to widen his eyes when he noticed Wells was there.

"As to why I'm here, well, I thought I was signing up for 'Patriotism, Yay,' but apparently...yeah, that didn't work out," John settled his eyes on the floor and retook his seat.

Andrew slouched down in his seat as John was talking - doing his best to be invisible.

"I'm Rodney McKay and I'm a Junior." Rodney paused for a moment and tried to think of a diplomatic way to explain why he was in this class; then he gave up and went with the truth. "I'm here because I needed another class and it was either this or 'Creatures of Nature.'" He shuddered, "I mean really, an entire course about animals and nature. I'd break out in hives before the end of the first day." Rodney seemed to realize that this might not be the kind of thing the professor wanted to know and he subsided.

"I'm Jeff," he said. Well, he was. "My mother signed me up. She said it was an important life lesson." Smaller voice: "She wouldn't tell me which class I was in. I kept asking, of course, but she was too busy... Uh."
