Ares grinned at his class as they assembled before him. It wasn't a nice grin. "Now I promised you something special for this last class and I don't want to disappoint."

"Today you are all going to give a practical demonstration of the self-confidence skills that I've been teaching you, by justifing your continued existence. Because let's face it, I'm a god, and if I amused me I could kill you all with hardly any effort. So put on a good show."

Not that he was actually allowed to do anything to them, but hey, they didn't know that.

Karal took a deep breath and stood up. Before he could speak, Altra leapt up to sit on the desk in front of him, tail lashing, almost like he knew what was coming.

"No." Karal said it respectfully and calmly, but his voice was very firm. "I will not justify my existence to you."

Ares seemed more intent on Altra than Karal. "Interesting tactic for someone in your position," he said. "Also, detention for refusing the assignment."

Altra never took his eyes off Ares. Karal nodded, because he'd expected it. "Very well," he said, still calm and respectful.
