Self Confidence the Ares Way, [Thursday, Period 2]

Ares grinned at his class as they assembled before him. It wasn't a nice grin. "Now I promised you something special for this last class and I don't want to disappoint."

"Today you are all going to give a practical demonstration of the self-confidence skills that I've been teaching you, by justifing your continued existence. Because let's face it, I'm a god, and if I amused me I could kill you all with hardly any effort. So put on a good show."

Not that he was actually allowed to do anything to them, but hey, they didn't know that.

"At the moment, I'm not fond of them myself," Naminé said, almost surprised at the words as they came out. "Not Light itself, or the keyblade's chosen one, but ... those who wish to serve it and feel that the best way to do so is to hurt others and dispose of anyone who might pose a threat."

Ares tutted. "That doesn't sound like a very Light-friendly way to conduct business."

"No. I'm beginning to think perhaps he was more interested in his own motives than Light at all." Naminé looked down for a moment. "That he's awful doesn't make him any less wrong. Or provide a convincing counterargument, I'm afraid."

"But if he's serving himself rather than Light, how do you really know you're a threat to it. Maybe he's actually working against Light?"

Naminé considered that for a moment. "But ... he helped Sora. Why would he, if he was serving Dark?"

"Oh. I don't believe I'd thought of it that way." Naminé bit her lip, thinking. "Then ... perhaps I'd ask that you spare my life in deference to the services I provided, as your assistant. You did seem pleased, last week, when I disrupted class rather rudely."

"Well then." Naminé lifted a shoulder. "You have no strong reason to kill or not kill me, but I have amused you in the past and may continue to do so in the future, and that appears to be enough to shift the argument in my balance."
