Flight & Flying [Friday, June 22, 2nd period]

Anakin was waiting for the students on the top of the apartment building in town, leaning up against a Lambda-class Imperial shuttle.

"Welcome to the Virgo," he said with a small smile before giving them a quick rundown of the general specifications of the ship. "It's twenty meters long and is generally used to ferry soldiers or cargo back home," he said. "It's also equipped with a hyperdrive--which we will not be using--as well as two forward-facing double laser cannons, two wing-mounted double cannons, and a rear-facing double laser cannon." He met each student's eyes. "Which we will definitely not be using. We're going to do a quick swing around the system here--we won't go out as far as Pluto, but since it's not a planet any longer, I doubt it will be that offended."

He waved a hand towards the ramp. "Come aboard."

She didn't think she was up to the Asteroid belt, but Isabel happily took a turn in open space. "Can we buzz the Cassini satellite that's studying Saturn? It would give NASA something to talk about."

Anakin chuckled. "Do we really want to scare them like that?" he asked, curious but not necessarily opposed to the idea.

"Probably no," she laughed. "But just think, we'd give Weekly World News their headlines for the next decade."

"By the way, I'm sorry I had to cancel on Wednesday. My dad had an unexpected trip to Baltimore come up, so my mom came with him and I went up there to spend some time with them."

"Family comes first," Anakin said, giving her a smile. "Don't worry about it. We can reschedule."

"Same time next week?" Isabel asked. "And barrel rolls would probably be a bad idea wouldn't they?"

"Sounds great," Anakin said, then gave her a mischievous smile. "If they're not all strapped in, I say it's their own fault. Go for it."

"If someone turns up with a broken leg, I'm blaming you for indulging me," she grinned. Laughing, Isabel increased speed and went into a roll.

Anakin's entire face lit up as she did it. "Now we're flying."

"I don't know that I'd actually do this if there was a chance I could hit something," she admitted.

"That's when you really need to know how to do this," Anakin said. "Rush hour on Coruscant? Scary."

"Remind me if I ever make it to Coruscant? Not to let you drive," Isabel told him.

"I'm a fantastic driver," Anakin said sullenly.

"I'm sure you are. It's the rest of the drivers I worry about," she replied. "They'll be so busy watching you with awe, they'll run into each other and crash."

Anakin gave her a long look before nodding. "They'd have to restrain themselves," he declared.

Just for fun, Isabel did one more roll. "This is too much fun."

Anakin grinned happily. "It's the best thing in the universe and I say that anyone who disagrees is a damned liar."

"I'm not arguing with you at all," she said. "I might wind up bugging you to take me up again."

"I'd love to," Anakin said. "Rory's been getting weekly lessons."

"Oh really?" Isabel said. Maybe she and Luke wouldn't have to resort to locking them in a closet after all.

"Sure," Anakin said obliviously happily. "She's gotten very good."

Isabel smiled back and then reluctantly started to unbuckle. "I guess I need to give someone else a chance now don't I?"
