Flight & Flying [Friday, June 22, 2nd period]

Anakin was waiting for the students on the top of the apartment building in town, leaning up against a Lambda-class Imperial shuttle.

"Welcome to the Virgo," he said with a small smile before giving them a quick rundown of the general specifications of the ship. "It's twenty meters long and is generally used to ferry soldiers or cargo back home," he said. "It's also equipped with a hyperdrive--which we will not be using--as well as two forward-facing double laser cannons, two wing-mounted double cannons, and a rear-facing double laser cannon." He met each student's eyes. "Which we will definitely not be using. We're going to do a quick swing around the system here--we won't go out as far as Pluto, but since it's not a planet any longer, I doubt it will be that offended."

He waved a hand towards the ramp. "Come aboard."

Anakin took the shuttle up into space himself. Not that he didn't trust some of the pilots in the group, but he trusted himself more.

"Before we begin taking turns flying the shuttle," he said, turning the shuttle around so that the Earth filled the viewports, "I wanted you to see what where we came from looks like from out here."

Luke nudged Gavin's shoulder. "Look at all the water," he said, grinning.

"It looks like it might swallow the land," Gavin said, gaping.

Luke bit his lip. "I hadn't thought of that." He glanced around at their classmates. "You see anyone we might be able to check that with?" he murmured.

"Um." Gavin looked around. "No one else looks too worried."

"Good point," Luke said with a relieved smile. "It's not like disaster would be imminent or anything."

He looked back out the viewport. "Sure is prettier than Tatooine."

"Yeah," Gavin said, staring. "I wish we had colors like this."

"Endor was pretty from space, too," Luke mused, "but this...man."

"Most of its salty, too," Luke said. "What's the point of useless water?"

"Maybe they can get the salt out?" Gavin asked. "Put it in a bucket and let the salt sink to the bottom of the bucket?"

He really thought this was a good idea.

Naomi had seen the view of Earth from space before but it was still incredible to look at.

Jaina had seen this view on her way in when she first got here, but she tried to look interested for anyone who might actually be from here.

Having portalled in when he got here, Anders hadn't seen the view.

Inara watched the planet carefully, unable to believe how peaceful it looked. This was definitely a sight of myth and legend, and she would be the only person on Shinon who had seen it. Ever.
