Anakin didn't apologize for his behavior, you know, ever.

But he was noticeably more calm than he'd been the week before as the class met in the Danger Shop ~~like he'd totally emailed them about, really~~.

"Today we're going to try something a little different," he said quietly, pointing to two motorcycle-esque machines hovering before him. "This is a swoop bike," he said, pointing to one, "and the one on the left is a speeder bike, the slightly newer model, which is also equipped with a laser cannon. Don't use the laser cannon, please. Both fly like the motorcycles of your world drive, but can get up to 400 kilometers an hour. That being said, you will be wearing helmets --" fortunately for the class, much more attractive than the Nubian ones from the previous week, "--and there are two different scenarios based on your level of skill. One is a desert planet with nothing to hit. The second is a forest moon with trees hundreds of meters tall."

He gave Luke a small smile. "Please don't hit a tree and explode. There'd be paperwork. Next week, we'll be meeting at my shuttle and doing some actual space flight. If you hurt my ship, I'll be unhappy. If you demonstrate today you don't have the maturity to fly responsibly, you won't be asked to come along." He stared hard at each student. "Questions?"

"I think that's a good line to draw. No jumpsuits in general is another one."

She stared. "Jumpsuits? Why jumpsuits?"

"It's what Elvis wears," Anakin said, "at least in Las Vegas. With glitter. And sparkly things. And a lot of chest hanging out. I'm not doing that."

There's a little snort of laughter from Aeryn, and she quickly tones it down to a smile. "Sorry. Just picturing you in glitter."

Anakin smiled back. "No boykissy."

"...I can imagine the look on John's father's face, so I'm in complete agreement on that," she says quickly.

"Even if Angel's going to be there and I'm sure Rory remembers I owe her boykissing of some kind. It's not appropriate."

"...You do?" she says, frowning as she tries to picture that. It's really kind of difficult.

That's why there might be head tilting involved in the visualization.

"I don't remember why," Anakin said, "but I think it had something to do with compensating for the two of us beating each other up. I beat Obi-Wan up a lot of times and never had to kiss him afterwards."

"It's Rory," she says, figuring that's as good a reason as any.

"And it was a long time ago," Anakin added. "I'm sure she doesn't care who I kiss now."

"Uh huh," Aeryn deadpans. "Should I get my stick?"

Anakin shrugged his shoulders uncomfortably. "She made it very clear I shouldn't be kissing her, anyway," he muttered.

"She said that?"

"She ducked out of the way. Twice," Anakin said, sounding humiliated. "I won't be trying that again, you know, ever."

"Yes, you will," Aeryn says, sounding like this is a given.

"I'm a glutton for punishment," Anakin agreed, "but I'm not going to force something she so clearly doesn't want."

"You have a lot of reasons to not do anything about it, and then you go ahead and do it anyway," Aeryn says. "Have you noticed this?"

Not really, no.

"...I do?"

"Yes," she says, nodding. "I mean, you said for weeks that you weren't going to try anything and she deserves better and now you're telling me she ducked away from a kiss. You do."

He was quiet for a long time.

"I'll stop."

"Talk to her before you decide anything," Aeryn says. "You might save yourself a lot of confusion if you have a more definitive idea of where you stand."

She's hypocriticizing again.

Anakin rolled his eyes. "Oh, that's a conversation I really want to have."

"So you'd rather put yourself out there and get hurt again without even trying to ask how she feels?"

"I thought I knew how she felt," he said quietly. "I used to be very good at reading her. I was wrong. It's better not to ever mention it again. It'll be much less awkward that way."
