Flight & Flying [Friday, second period]

Anakin didn't apologize for his behavior, you know, ever.

But he was noticeably more calm than he'd been the week before as the class met in the Danger Shop like he'd totally emailed them about, really.

"Today we're going to try something a little different," he said quietly, pointing to two motorcycle-esque machines hovering before him. "This is a swoop bike," he said, pointing to one, "and the one on the left is a speeder bike, the slightly newer model, which is also equipped with a laser cannon. Don't use the laser cannon, please. Both fly like the motorcycles of your world drive, but can get up to 400 kilometers an hour. That being said, you will be wearing helmets --" fortunately for the class, much more attractive than the Nubian ones from the previous week, "--and there are two different scenarios based on your level of skill. One is a desert planet with nothing to hit. The second is a forest moon with trees hundreds of meters tall."

He gave Luke a small smile. "Please don't hit a tree and explode. There'd be paperwork. Next week, we'll be meeting at my shuttle and doing some actual space flight. If you hurt my ship, I'll be unhappy. If you demonstrate today you don't have the maturity to fly responsibly, you won't be asked to come along." He stared hard at each student. "Questions?"

"No, I'm sure the possibility never even entered your mind. I'm simply adding another reason why thinking getting vacuumed is stupid," she says.

"I'm tempted to stick him in one of those terrifying spacesuits they still use on this planet--the ones with the stupid helmets and no range of motion," Anakin admitted.

"Fitting punishment for that kind of paranoia," she says.

Yeah, she's used to space. Does it show?

"It won't wound his precious ego blah, blah whatever?" Anakin asked.

Such a good teacher.

"So caring," Aeryn teases, but the fact that she doesn't realize this should actually possibly be a concern is just one sign that maybe she didn't grow up right.

He shrugged. "Maybe I can dig up enough for all of them to wear if they're feeling insanely paranoid."

Anakin grinned. "How much would you pay?"

"Is there more money if they bounce off of each other?" Anakin asked, snickering.

"I have a lot of practice in a big, ugly suit," Anakin said, and it was telling that he could tease about this. "It wouldn't be fair."

"They don't know that," she says. "I think it makes my suggestion better."

Anakin actually mulled the suggestion over before shaking his head. "I don't want to scare Luke."

"I can understand that," she says, still with a little smile. "And I should probably leave then, while the image is still fresh in my mind."
