Library - 6/5

Armed with her coffee, Isabel opened the library on time.

"Oh?" she asked, raising an eyebrow. "My wit and sparkling personality?"

"That too," Peter said. He leaned against the counter. "I need an application."

"An application? Didn't you get a library card when you first enrolled?" Isabel replied, nibbling a cookie thoughtfully.

"Yeah but I filled it out wrong," Peter said, smoothly. "I need another one."

"I see," she said, feeling oddly suspicious. Isabel reached for a clipboard and handed it over. "Here, fill it out and I'll process it for you right now."

"I can't," Peter said. He took the clipboard. "Fill it out now, I mean. I'll have to bring it back to you."

"Oh? Did you hurt your hand?" Isabel asked, reaching for his hand, her voice full of concern. "Why didn't you say anything?"

"I didn't want to be a burden to anybody," Peter said, trying to put on a brave face.

"Aww, how noble but so unnecessary," she told him. "Let me see. What did you do? A cut? A blister? Does it need a kiss to make it better?"

Peter was so busy blinking at that last question that he said "Yes" before he was aware of it.

"Well you'll have to show me where it hurts first," Isabel pointed out. "Or am I supposed to guess?"

"Well... hand," Peter said, suave as ever.

"Right or left?" she asked, biting her lip to keep from laughing.

"Right," Peter said. He didn't know why he felt like that was a good choice, he just did.

Isabel held out her hand. "Let me see it then."

Peter held out his right hand. He tried doing puppy eyes again too, just to be on the safe side.

"I don't see any thing wrong with it," Isabel told him, running her thumb over his palm. "Where does it hurt?"

"Around?" Peter tried.

"That's pretty not specific," she chuckled. "Any chance of narrowing it down for me? Say maybe your pinkie? Or your thumb?"

"Oh. Uh, thumb?" Peter tried.

"In that case..." Isabel kissed the tip of her index finger on her free hand and pressed it to Peter's thumb. "Does that help?"

Peter snickered. "Tons. Thanks."

"What did you expect?" she asked, attempting to look innocent.

"No clue," Peter admitted. He tugged one of the applications off of the clipboard. "So I'll just take one of these and get it back to you."

"I'm here every Tuesday," Isabel nodded. "And just down the hall the rest of the time."
