Arts & Crafts 3, Tuesday Afternoon, Main Campfire

This afternoon Steve was standing over a table of useless junk. At each of the tables for workshoppers were glue, glitter, paint, and pipe cleaners.

"Today we're going to work on improvisational art," Steve said. "I've...~~handwavily~~ appropriated some items from a store in town." He'd tried to pay, but there didn't seem to be anyone to pay. "You are to incorporate at least one of them into your project. Make whatever you want. Go wild. Have fun."

After a moment of silence, he added as a sort of footnote, "The theme of your project should be, 'Why the Superhuman Registration Act is a bad idea and will never work.'"

Maybe ask him what the SHRA is. If he looks vaguely emo it's not your imagination.

Will frowned. Captain Liberty had mentioned any act in the superhero class last semester, and she certainly hadn't heart about that back home. Not that many people back home knew about the superhero thing, but still.

Before starting on her art project, she made a beeline straight for the teacher. "Uh, Mr Steve? What is Superhuman Registration Act?"

"Where I'm from," Steve said soberly, "A law was recently passed saying all people with superpowers have to register with and work for the government. Failure to register results in life imprisonment in a prison that makes you crazy."

She frowned.

"Well that's stupid. Who are they to say where and when you should be fighting evil and saving worlds? Why should they punish you with crazy jails for wanting to do good without an agenda?"

"See, this is what I said," said Steve.

"Superhuman Registration Act?" Seely asked, frowning.

Steve gave Seely basically the same explanation he'd given Will ~~above~~, then said, "Needless to say I disagreed."

"Sounds like the right thing to do," Seely said. "The disagreeing."

"Yeah," Steve said. "Some people didn't agree with me, of course."

"Asses."

"I couldn't agree with you more, son," Steve told him. "Now go express yourself."

Naminé looked apologetic. "I'm afraid I don't know what that is."

"Where I come from," Steve told Naminé, "A law was recently passed saying that all people with superhuman abilities have to register with the government. And work for the government. And do everything the government says. And if they refused they were hunted down and stuck in prison for life in a place that makes people crazy."

Naminé stared for a moment, shaking her head. "But that's awful. People deserve ... that isn't right."

"I know," Steve told her. "I tried to fight it, but...people didn't want it fought. And I didn't like the person I was turning into," he added.

Naminé nodded. "I'm sorry. I hope ... I hope things change, in your world."

"So do I," Steve said in a heartfelt voice. "I don't think they can go on the way they have been."

Animal listened carefully to Steve's explanation of the SHRA.

Either that Or he was planning to eat Steve's head.

Either way he looks thoughtful.

Animal is welcome to try to eat Steve's head, but he would not be successful. For Steve is Steve.
