Library [05/24]

When Bridge had asked Sam if he could open the library for him, Sam didn't even need to think before saying yes. So, after his morning workshops, he headed to the library and took his usual spot at the computer, intent on at least trying to research who or what could be behind the recent attacks.

"I guess. The year we've been here already doesn't feel like it was that long though," Sam pointed out.

"Time flies and all that, huh?" Dean shook his head. "I just... I don't want to think about more people leaving right now."

"Me neither. I think that's actually worse than thinking about us leaving."

"Well, yeah becuase you're planning on leaving and going off to some fancy college somewhere."

"I don't know why you assume I'll get into a 'fancy college,'" Sam replied. "I could end up in a community college if I can't get a scholarship anywhere."

Dean snorted. "Yeah right. Geek like you?"

Sam couldn't resist looking a little proud. "Yeah, well, you never know. And that's still three years away. Now that's a long time."

"I dunno," Dean said, thinking about the past. "Sometimes it can seem like the blink of an eye."

"Or it could feel like ten years," Sam said, thinking along similar lines. "It's all in the context of what things are like at the time."

"Yeah. Sucks that the better they are, the faster time seems to go."

"And that if all you want is for three years to pass, it takes freaking forever."

"I'm sorry about that," Dean said, even though Sammy had told him more than once it wasn't his fault.

"It's okay now," Sam said. "If it makes you feel any better, I think the next three years are going to go by kind of slowly."

"That's funny. I was just thinking how they were going to fly by," Dean said.

"I don't know about that last year. You're going to be done with school, and I won't be."

"If you do go to college, that's going to be true for more than one year," Dean pointed out.

Sam frowned softly. "I didn't really think about it that way. I just figured...wherever I end up, I'm going to be near you and Dad somehow, you know?"

That... actually went a long way towards quieting some of the fears the thought of Sammy going off into a completely new life in a way deliberate reassurances hadn't.

Dean smiled at his brother. "Yeah, I suspect we could swing by the campus every now and then to keep an eye on you."

Sam smiled. "I hope so. You can't expect me to believe you're not going to take the chance to flirt with college girls when you can," he said.

"Well..." Dean smirked.

"Exactly," Sam said, laughing. "I can be your way in to all the parties. Er, the ones that I go to, I mean."

"So I guess I see what my task is in the next couple of years then. Turn you into a party animal."

"Yeah, right, that's definitely going to happen," Sam deadpanned.

"Stranger things have happened," Dean said, giving him a fond smile.

"There's strange, and then there's me partying. That's beyond strange," Sam replied. "You know how good of a Seahorse I made."
