Library [05/24]

When Bridge had asked Sam if he could open the library for him, Sam didn't even need to think before saying yes. So, after his morning workshops, he headed to the library and took his usual spot at the computer, intent on at least trying to research who or what could be behind the recent attacks.

Sam frowned softly. "I didn't really think about it that way. I just figured...wherever I end up, I'm going to be near you and Dad somehow, you know?"

That... actually went a long way towards quieting some of the fears the thought of Sammy going off into a completely new life in a way deliberate reassurances hadn't.

Dean smiled at his brother. "Yeah, I suspect we could swing by the campus every now and then to keep an eye on you."

Sam smiled. "I hope so. You can't expect me to believe you're not going to take the chance to flirt with college girls when you can," he said.

"Well..." Dean smirked.

"Exactly," Sam said, laughing. "I can be your way in to all the parties. Er, the ones that I go to, I mean."

"So I guess I see what my task is in the next couple of years then. Turn you into a party animal."

"Yeah, right, that's definitely going to happen," Sam deadpanned.

"Stranger things have happened," Dean said, giving him a fond smile.

"There's strange, and then there's me partying. That's beyond strange," Sam replied. "You know how good of a Seahorse I made."

"You didn't do so bad," Dean told him.

"Jaye made me promise to get shirtless occasionally, even without her here to prod me."

"Good. That'll save me from having to steal all your shirts," Dean teased.

Sam rolled his eyes. "I should have known how unhelpful you would be in that matter."

"Wild college parties," Dean reiterated. "Have to get you ready for them if you're going."

"How about I prepare for semi-wild parties? Like the drinking game parties we had last summer," Sam said. "That's about the highest level of partying I can handle."

"It's a start," Dean said. "Just no punching out Alec the morning after."

"Hey, if it's necessary, I make no guarantees. But I think I'd be a lot less likely to do that now than I was a year ago," he admitted.

"Yeah, me too," Dean admitted. "You had some truly idiotic moments, but generally you've grown over this year."

"Thanks," Sam said, taking that compliment gladly. "It helps that Alec has too, I think."

"What -- grown over the year or had some truly idiotic moments?" Dean teased.

"Both, but I was referring more to the growth. He actually has the personality of a real person now."

"He's always had the personality," Dean said. "He just needed how to learn to be a person." He smiled fondly. "He's done a pretty good job of that."

"Yeah, the way he acted when you got kidnapped proved that," Sam said. "I don't know if it's just that he's been around people long enough to pick up on things, or what. But...he's definitely better. Just don't tell him I said that."

Dean chuckled. "I'm not sure he'd believe me if I did. And yeah, Manticore treated him like a thing his entire life, he needed a little time to learn how to be more than that."

"It helps that he had a pretty decent role model for when he finally decided to learn," Sam replied.
