Luau, The Main Campfire, Friday evening

Around dinner time on Friday, the main campfire was transformed. Leis and grass skirts were available to all. A pig was roasting kabobs. There was Hawaiian music playing from somewhere. There was also a limbo stick of doom. If you lost, you died.

Okay, that was just Drax's hope. He couldn't make it happen in reality. Woe.

"Well, you're just as likely to end up thinking you're a Christmas tree or something," Tannim said. "Oh, avoid the cupcakes in the cafeteria. They have a similar effect."

"A Christmas tree could be fun," Charlie said, then blinked. "I had a hamburger? And some fries? But that was Monday, so I guess there's no delayed effects, hunh?" She grinned. "Have *you* ever been bitten by a gremlin?"

"No," Tannim said, and grinned. "I did eat a cupcake from the cafeteria, though."

"Ooooo," Charlie teased. "Who did you think you were? Or did you just enjoy the cupcake?"

"Well, it was an excellent cupcake," Tannim admitted. "But I spent the rest of the day thinking I was Santa Claus."

"I went from room to room passing out gifts," Tannim said sheepishly. "Mostly stuff I'd found in the basement."

Charlie nearly fell off her bench, giggling. "What did people do? Just... let you give them things?"

"Pretty much, yeah," Tannim grinned. "I guess people are used to weirdness around here. What would you do if I walked into your room ho-ho-ho-ing and handed you something random?"

Charlie choked on her drink, spluttering. "I.. . guess it would depend on what it was?" she said weakly, turning bright red. "Um. Yeah."

"Mostly old romance novels and educational films from the sixties," Tannim said. "Nothing dirty."

"Good." Charlie grinned, and teased, "I guess I'd say thanks and make a note to give you a bad time about it later. Now, anyway. A week ago, I might have called the guys in the white coats."

"You're practically a native now," Tannim grinned. "Pretty soon you'll be keeping a camera handy for such occasions."

"Oh, God, if I do get bitten, people will take photos?" Charlie's eyes widened in amusement and fear. "Okay, now I want to just hide in my closet for the rest of the summer."

"Great, nowhere is safe. Is there any way to fight them off?" She looked hopeful. "Maybe gremlin repellant?"

"I think a cricket bat is traditional," Tannim said. "I've got one, if you ever need to borrow it."
