Luau, The Main Campfire, Friday evening

Around dinner time on Friday, the main campfire was transformed. Leis and grass skirts were available to all. A pig was roasting kabobs. There was Hawaiian music playing from somewhere. There was also a limbo stick of doom. If you lost, you died.

Okay, that was just Drax's hope. He couldn't make it happen in reality. Woe.

And Roy wasn't dumb enough to not recognise when charm was being turned on. "It was my military's decision to transfer me here, so you'd have to ask them," he told her, very much bending the truth.

"Military as well?" Vala looked impressed, but was actually, maybe, the tiniest bit worried, "Where do you find the time?"

"I don't," Roy said honestly. "So if anyone asks, I'm really at the station doing paperwork right now," he added with a wink.

She winked back, "Your secret's safe with me."

"Thank you, Vala," Roy said sincerely. "Perhaps I can buy you a drink one day in gratitude?"

"That would be wonderful, Roy," she smiled at him again, "You're such a gentleman."

Roy smirked and inclined his head at the compliment. "I'd offer to buy you one now, but everything here seems to be free."

"Is that common?"

"I haven't been here long enough to tell," Roy said honestly and shrugged. "People do seem to like to share. There's free lunches every Sunday in town."

"Really? How...odd. How long have you been here?"

"Almost three weeks now," Roy replied, a bit surprised that it had been so long already. "Long enough to see the school get blown up by a spaceship."

"Oh, is that what happened? I noticed the rubble, but didn't think to ask," she glanced back towards the school, "Does that happen a lot?"

"I've been told not," Roy frowned a little. "I'm not quite sure I believe them."

"I can see why not. You seem very alert, for a sheriff, if you don't mind my saying so."

"Sheriffs usually aren't alert?" Roy asked her, amused.

"In my experience, not generally," she shrugged. Not that that was a bad thing. In fact, that was a good thing. She'd have to be more careful here. Or maybe just more creative.

"And you've dealt with a lot of sheriffs?" Roy inquired, raising an eyebrow at her. It probably really would be smart to be creative around him.

"I like the uniforms, and they make the men so pretty and approachable," she smiled innocently, "but they don't always make them smart."

Roy raised an eyebrow and would have argued that most military officers he'd worked with were actually pretty smart. Letting Vala know that didn't seem like a good idea however and he smiled at her. "Perhaps not."

"Nice guys, though," she said fondly.

"Your military has a good reputation then?" he concluded.

"Oh, sure." Vala had no idea. "Our military is very well respected and very organized."

"That's good then," he said. "Is your world similar to this one?"

"I'm not sure. I haven't seen much of this one yet."

Well considering Roy figured 'this one' looked like Fandom, he probably didn't have a very good idea of it anyway. "But you don't look too lost," he said instead.
