Luau, The Main Campfire, Friday evening

Around dinner time on Friday, the main campfire was transformed. Leis and grass skirts were available to all. A pig was roasting kabobs. There was Hawaiian music playing from somewhere. There was also a limbo stick of doom. If you lost, you died.

Okay, that was just Drax's hope. He couldn't make it happen in reality. Woe.

"Again. Except this time we've got no clue what did it. Last time the other Xander was involved." Details of how and where and why, Xander decided to leave out.

"Well at least we know it'll wear off?" she offered. "And in the mean time? He's still cute and cuddley?"

"And I can actually understand what he's saying this time," Xander told her. "We got a little wizardy help."

"Useful," Isabel agreed. "Should I ever wind up small and furry will you promise to get me the same help?"

"His name's Ronan," Xander said, grinning. "He's one of the new kids this term."

"I haven't met him," she told him. "But I'll keep him in mind. I still need to meet most of the new people and damn there's a lot of them."

"There's another Slayer now," Xander told her. "Or two, I guess, actually, but there's one that I actually know from home, and a girl who hunts vampires but isn't a Chosen-One type Slayer."

"They're going to be mighty bored aren't they?" Isabel asked. "At least till the next invasion."

"Seriously. I had to promise Mel a twinkie every time she doesn't tempt fate by asking for one..."

Yeah, that'd be Bridge perking up at the mention of Twinkies.

Isabel raised an eyebrow at Bridge. "You want to be invaded?"

Xander rolled his eye and reached for his phone. "No, he wants to eat half his bodyweight in Twinkie."

"I haven't had enough sugar myself tonight." She'd only had three dozen marshmallows. "Hit me?" Isabel asked, holding out her hand.

Xander laughed and poked the twinkie-button ~~not dirty~~. "Twinkiephone's been getting a workout this week."

"Yummy," Isabel gleed, taking a bite. "Mel's that bored?"

"Pretty much. Plus now we've got the whole platoon of bored Slayers."

"I don't envy you at all," she said. "Of course on the bright side it means during the next invasion we can sit on the sidelines with popcorn."

Xander snickered. "Yeah, 'cause that'll happen."

Isabel thought about it for a minute and shrugged. "You're right. But it was a pleasant daydream for a moment."

"Truth to tell, I'm about over letting people I care about go out and fight while I wait," Xander said, thinking of the nights he'd waited up to make sure Bridge had made it back from ... wherever, worried about losing someone he hadn't even beenletting himself have. "Which makes me oh so qualified for my job title..."

"I get that," she said, thinking of Max and Michael and everything they went through on Antar, especially in the beginning when they didn't trust her. "You're doing a great job. No matter what."

He smiled. "I hope so. I get why they're twitchy, I do. I just... trouble comes soon enough, y'know? I like it when they're safe."
