Luau, The Main Campfire, Friday evening

Around dinner time on Friday, the main campfire was transformed. Leis and grass skirts were available to all. A pig was roasting kabobs. There was Hawaiian music playing from somewhere. There was also a limbo stick of doom. If you lost, you died.

Okay, that was just Drax's hope. He couldn't make it happen in reality. Woe.

Board shorts and a tank top is as close to stripping off as Mac's going to get for this.

She's just sitting around, roasting marshmallows on a stick. Mmm, marshmallows.

Cally sat down next to Mac. "Those are vegan, right?"

"Yep. Brought my own along." Mac nodded twirling the stick between her hands for a moment. "Want one?" she offered, holding it out in Cally's direction.

"Absolutely," Cally said, taking one. "Always good to be prepared."

"You can't come to a luau and not have marshmallows," Mac said simply. "It's goes against some cardinal rule somewhere."

"We listen to birds, now?" Cally asked.

Mac giggled, skewering another marshmallow. "Not quite."

"Aha," Cally said. "So... you met the frog student, yet?"

"I have not met a frog student," Mac said. She turned to Cally, "...there's a frog student?"

"There's a frog student," Cally said. "I have it on good authority there are turtles, too. And not, like, the girl. But actual turtles."

"We haven't had animals going to school here before, have we?" Mac asked. "I mean, not as actual students... and not counting the cat-boy."

"Not that I remember," Cally said. "I didn't meet any, at least."

"Something new, even for here," Mac said with a nod. "Nice frog?"

"Actually, yeah," Cally said. "He seemed sweet."

"Guess I'll have to look out for him. I've been all lacking when it comes to meeting new people so far."

"Oh, speaking of, I met your little," Cally said.

"Oh." Mac grinned. "I got a good one this time, I think," she said. "Sabriel seems nice. Less creepy that Steeplehike guy by a mile."

"Yeah, whatever happened to him, anyways?" Cally asked.

"Heard on the radio he got chased out of town," Mac said. "Never did find out why, though."

"Huh," Cally said. "Guess he probably deserved it."

Mac shrugged. "I suppose so," she said. "I don't think they'd just do it for kicks."

Sabriel waved from her spot. "Hello!"

"Heey, Sabriel." Mac smiled, waving back at her with her free hand. "First week gone okay?"

Sabriel thought about that before finally nodding. "I believe so. It's been strange, but not bad." She smiled back.

"It's always strange around here," Mac said simply twirling her marshmallow. "Sounds like you're off to a perfectly nomal start."

"You grow to love the oddities," she admitted. "It's kinda weird to go home and not get invaded by weetiny bunnies or get... food rain or whatever."
