Tremble Foolish Mortals: The Gods and You, Class Fifteen [Period 5, Thursday]

Ares looked disturbingly happy as he addressed the class.

"Our final today is " He clicked his fingers and a portal appeared. "If you'd all follow me through the portal?"

As the class entered the portal, they may have felt an odd tingling.

You don't wanna commit mass murder and then find out he missed it, do you?" Rikku sighed. Religious people, all the same.

"You should certainly hope so, if you're going to all this trouble," Rikku sniffed. "And you totally ducked the what's-he-done-for-you bit. Not getting much of a payout? 'Cause man. You'd really better hope that, you know, none of us are important to our gods, who might be totally more powerful than yours and not real thrilled about this dedication thing."

Rikku put her hands on her hips. "Mine sure doesn't. And he's gonna be so superpissed at you when he finds out you were trying to hurt me. I mean, unlike your god? Mine actually watches out for me. If you see random lightning bolts, I would duck, is what I'm saying."

Okay, Rikku had a small amount of respect for them if they actually had some semblance of science here. Not bad.

She didn't falter. "And what causes ionised clouds? I mean, do you see any now? If there are some later, why'd they decide to show up? It's certainly not your god saying 'hey, nice job.' I mean, since he doesn't pay attention to you and all."

Rikku sighed and shook her head sympathetically. "It's okay. I totally used to follow a god who didn't care, too. I mean, you think you don't deserve any better. He's a god, you're a mortal ... it just sort of stings now and again, but you get over that, you know?" She bit her lip. "I ... I thought it would go away, but it never did."

She looked up quickly. "Did you hear thunder?"
