"It's for us," he corrected with a grin. "Thought you might need a coffee break from all the studying you're not doing. Unless you've got a desk hidden back there?"

"I studied last night," she promised. "And I actually do have work to do here. It's not just sitting around being social. So I have to balance it all out."

"I was only kidding," he told her, laughing as he set his goodies on the counter. "I spent exactly no time yesterday studying. Really, I just wanted to see you."

"I spent a lot of time licking a seahorse Sunday night. I'm hoping it'll carry me through the week." Isabel opened the bag eagerly, "The way to my heart. Baked goods and caffiene."

"You mean I don't already have your heart?" Jack pouted and hopped up to sit on the edge of the desk. "That makes me very, very sad. So sad I may not share those muffins. Or this coffee." Which wasn't likely, seeing as he was pulling a coffee out of its tray and offering it to her.

"Okay, you do have a point," she grinned, taking the coffee and then leaning next to him. "But if someone new were interested, this would be one way."

"you've got a point," he conceded. "Winning someone's affection through baked goods and coffee is a universal tactic." He flipped the lid off his coffee, dropped it in the trash, then put his arm around Isabel. "And I've decided you may have muffins. There's a white chocolate raspberry one in there just for you."

Isabel sighed blissfully. "They'd have to go above and beyond and put a hell of a lot of effort into it to top this. You spoil em."

"I know." He kissed the top of her head and grinned smugly. "I like spoiling you. It's fun. How are things going with you, anyway?"

"Pretty mellow actually. I've just been studying for finals mostly," she shrugged.

"Mellow is good," he sighed. "I think there might be some sort of rule that nothing weird is allowed to happen during finals." He frowned. "Unless you count endless questions as weird, in which case all bets are off."

"What was up with that?" Isabel laughed, remembering the radio. "That was odd as all hell."

"You have no idea." He boggled slightly. "Do you have any idea how hard it is to flirt when you can only ask questions?"

"What? Did you run out of questions after what's your sign and can I buy you a drink?" Snickering, she sipped her latte and smiled.

"Hey! I have never asked anyone what their sign is." He shuddered. "So tacky. And I managed just fine, thank you. I'm taking Rikku and Dawn out for coffee some time this week. Well, I still have to ask Dawn."

"Rikku's nice. I'm going to try and help her with something, if I can," Isabel said, resting her head on his shoulder. "I'm not sure I'll be able to."

"Something? What sort of something?"

"A dreamwalk thing," she explained. "It'll be perfectly safe, don't worry."

"Uh huh," he said doubtfully, turning to look at her. "And as soon as you say that, I start worrying. What's going on, Isabel."

"It's not my place to say Jack," Isabel said quietly. "It's Rikku's problem. If I'm lucky I'll be able to help her. If I'm not? I'll have taken an extra nap. But it's moot at this point because unless she gets a picture, I can't do a thing."

"Okay, okay, Isabel, but," he put his coffee down and stepped in front of her, resting both hands on her shoulders, "you be careful, and you come get me before hand, if you want me to watch you. All right?"

Isabel put her own coffee down and slid her arms around his waist. "If it even happens. I promise, I'll tell you when and call you as soon as it's done."

"You'd better," he told her sternly, hugging her back. "Or I'm gonna be very cranky, and that's no fun for anyone."

"Nope, we don't want that," she laughed into his shoulder. "I've seen you cranky. It's definitely not fun."

Isabel reluctantly let go and reached for her coffee. "So how many more exams? Just Gods and Survival Tactics?"

"That's it, and I hope they go as well as today's did. Okay, I got shot, but I met both my objectives and," he grinned, "got to tie someone up."
