Spy Tech, Final Class (04/25)

Wednesday, April 25, First Period

Students entering the Danger Shop will first encounter a long table covered with heavy white envelopes. Each envelope is stamped TOP SECRET and labeled with a student's name. Technicians begin immediately handing out equipment to the class. M is standing to one side.

"Welcome to your final exam. These envelopes contain your mission briefings. You have each been assigned two targets and two mission objectives. First, eliminate your primary target. Then, isolate your secondary target and retrieve the specified item. Full marks will be given to any student who completes one of the missions, extra credit will be given for completing both.

"My techicians are outfitting you with three items. The first is a gun which fires a non-lethal laser. The second is a lightweight blunt sword. And the third is a vest equipped with special sensors, linked to both a wrist monitor and my own monitors here. These sensors will detect a shot from the laser gun or a hit from the sword. You will not be able to use either weapon to actually injure your classmates, but the wrist monitor will alert you to the sort of damage you could expect to have sustained from any shot or blow. Additionally, I will be watching your progress from the control station.

"Along with the required items you have just been given, you have access to a number of moddable other pieces of espionage equipment. You may outfit yourself with three additional useful tools to take along on your mission, with the exception of additional weapons or any sort of vehicle.

"There are three regions laid out here in the Danger Shop. You may move from region to region, and in fact will most likely have to do so in order to track your targets. The Danger Shop safety protocols will not allow you to become physically injured, but you will be able to interact fully with your surroundings. This means that you may improvise additional weapons or other useful tools, and the vests and monitors will adjust accordingly. Once you have completed the scenario, return the equipment and you may go on your way."

M took a moment to look at each student individually, and then nodded to the assembled group. "It's been an unexpected pleasure to teach this class. An experience I had not thought to enjoy. I wish you all luck in your future pursuits...and hope to God I never see a file on any of you cross my desk."

[OOC: Those of you who signed up to participate should have received an email containing information on your assignments. If you didn't, please tag me in the OOC thread and I'll make sure you get the information. This scenario is entirely dependent on the students playing it out with each other, there are no NPCs. Please keep in mind that you can't mod each other's actions or "injuries", but please also play along -- if another character aims a shot or a blow, play it out as your character would. If M catches anyone not abiding by the rules or the spirit of the game, she'll pull that character aside to have a word with them.

You'll find three OCD threads below, for the three "regions" laid out for use. You are welcome to interact with people other than your assigned targets, but you won't be able to actually "kill" non-target characters. The environment is completely moddable -- I've outlined a basic description below, but feel free to mod appropriate scenery, objects, etc. The only thing that the Danger Shop won't provide for you is additional people. Also, you may choose any three pieces of appropriate equipment to take along for the scenario -- cutting tools, explosives, communication devices, grappling guns, etc. The Danger Shop will provide whatever your character would deem appropriate, just please use common sense.

Please also feel free to email me with any questions at angel.phale @ gmail.com. The post is open for slowplay for as long as you'd like to use it.

This class has been a blast to teach, and hope you've enjoyed it as much as M and I have! Please wait for the OCD is up, have at it! :) ]

Anders, gun in hand and sword strapped to his back, headed into the forest -- he'd been doing stints of high-altitude training since he was twelve, and the forest reminded him a bit of Stanley Park Caprica's forests, so he pretty much felt at home as he went looking for his target.

. . . and wouldn't this be interesting.

He'd still much rather be back in the dorms keeping an eye on Phoebe, but after missing so much of class she'd have kicked his ass if he tried to ditch the final, so here he was.

Maybe he could get some of his frustration out this way, at least.

Hopefully not on the poor panicked degu, which was running back and forth and attempting to dislodge the laser tag equipment and the iPod from its back.

. . . well, he had to ask.

"Biers? That's not you, is it?"

The degu, already pretty freaked by having equipment strapped to it, panicked and tried to burrow away through the forest floor.

Anders scratched his head. "Either that's a no, or you're way more insecure about this whole animal thing than you should be. It's okay, really -- it's Fandom, there's no shame in it, honest!"

*burrowburrowburrow* It wasn't getting far enough fast enough! Evasive manuevers!

It backed out of its little hole and started running in panicked circles.

"Ooooooooookay then," Anders said, a bit boggled.

And that would be the sound of a laser tag gun being aimed at Anders, you know, if laser tag guns made a noise.

As it was, there was a girl with a fake gun aimed at him, "Any reason it should be?"

Anders coughed. "Idle curiosity? I mean, you never know," he said, searching for a sign of the pendant his information packet had told him to retrieve.

"Uh-huh." D said with a raised eyebrow. She was willing to let him wriggle for a few more moments. "Just looking out for a fellow colonial?"

The pendant wasn't visible, but there was a chain at her neck so it had probably just slipped behind her hair.

"Yeah, exactly," Anders said, all false innocence. "This far from home we gotta stick together, right?"

Now how to get the pendant? Hmmmm . . .

"Uh-huh." D said skeptically. "So... you haven't tried to shoot me yet. After the pendant then?"

Dick was just planning to find a nice spot of fall asleep but when he actually found his target he couldn't very well not try to "kill" him.

He started to trail Anders. He wasn't too good at it since it still hurt to open the eye Cameron punched all the way so he was sort of having trouble gauging distance. But he was following him nonetheless.

[identity profile] cantgetnorelief.livejournal.com 2007-04-25 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Anders still wasn't really good at this whole marine-type thing, and he was preoccupied worrying about Phoebe, so . . . well, he didn't notice Dick just yet.

Re: Region Two: The Forest

[identity profile] surferboy-09er.livejournal.com 2007-04-25 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Dick kept on following, trying to be quiet. Of course it was kind of hard to remain quiet when you've got "Mr. Roboto" stuck in your head. How could you not hum along to that?

Re: Region Two: The Forest

[identity profile] cantgetnorelief.livejournal.com 2007-04-25 06:53 pm (UTC)(link)
. . . when you thought you were hearing "All Along the Watchtower" again, that was how you couldn't hum along to it.

So naturally Anders thought his phone was ringing again, and paused to try and shut it off. "Frak frak frak!"

Re: Region Two: The Forest

[identity profile] surferboy-09er.livejournal.com 2007-04-25 07:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Dick decided to go for it now since Anders was distracted and all. He ran up a few feet and took a shot at him.

Re: Region Two: The Forest

[identity profile] cantgetnorelief.livejournal.com 2007-04-25 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Frantically trying to shut off a phone that wasn't ringing, Anders was a sitting duck and took a shot squarely in the side. "Oh, hell." His wrist monitor told him the shot hadn't hit anything vital, but he'd have a nice smoking hole in him anyway.

He crammed the phone back into his pocket and swung around, rifle in the ready position, scanning quickly for any sign of his attacker.

Dick did try to run but before he could get any distance he tripped and fell over. Stupid lack of depth perception.

Parker spotted Anders, and grinned to herself. Hmm. Have to get him alone first. Without spooking him.

Keeping her eyes open for her primary target too, Parker sloooowly crept up on Anders.

Re: Region Two: The Forest

[identity profile] cantgetnorelief.livejournal.com 2007-04-26 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
A little more on edge now thanks to the torso shot he'd taken earlier, Anders thought he heard movement from somewhere behind him and just as sloooooooooowly turned his head suspiciously.

Re: Region Two: The Forest

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2007-04-26 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
"Ohhhh, Anders...." Parker sing-songed. "Want some help?"

She stayed out of sight, and kept herself very very still.

Re: Region Two: The Forest

[identity profile] cantgetnorelief.livejournal.com 2007-04-26 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
Anders grinned slowly. How convenient. He took cover behind the nearest bit of shrubbery and brought his rifle up.

"Depends, Parker," he drawled. "What sort of help did you have in mind?"

Re: Region Two: The Forest

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2007-04-26 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
Parker grinned to herself. Well, well. "I already got my primary target. I'm going for my secondary. I saw " She grinned and cocked her gun. "Saw Dick stalking you earlier. So you know I'm not after you for that."

She started moving away, keeping her voice low. "I wondered if M were going to be clever about this."

Re: Region Two: The Forest

[identity profile] cantgetnorelief.livejournal.com 2007-04-26 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
Well now, this was just twisted. Anders definitely had to give M props for this.

He kept the barrel of his gun trained in the direction of her voice and felt in his left hip pocket for the iPod he'd stashed there.

"Frakkin' brilliant, seems like."
