Library - 4/18

Isabel was not particularly happy when she opened the library. It was too quiet without a chatterbox rambling on a mile a minute, or a sweet little boy trying to raid her hair gel.

It was going to be a very long day.

Parker stopped by, as she was getting in the habit of doing, and collapsed onto one of the high stools next to the counter. "I need a nap."

"You didn't sleep last night?" Isabel asked, although she could relate to why not easily enough.

"Too much to think about. Plus a first period class to get up for." She yawned. "They were here and now they're gone and I'm left with too many thoughts, damnit."

"Yeah, I know the feeling," she admitted, pushing in the last chair and coming back to lean on the desk. "I'm trying to stick to the happy ones though. That somewhere out there, I've got a family and I'm happy. It's certainly better the the other Isabel Xander met."

"Oh sure. They're happy. But are they safe?" Parker blinked, looking intrigued at the mention of another Isabel. "I don't think I heard about that. Although, what he told me about the other me he met was bizarre enough."

"I didn't want to ask too many questions, but they seemed to be." Isabel absently straightened some of the papers on the desk. "Alexandria mentioned something about living in the moutains and hiking and waterfalls. And god knows she mentioned you and Cedric enough. So I think between the three of us, or them, I guess, she's safe. And Josh? He had him mommy and daddy and hair gel. So he was happy."

"The other Isabel had been married. And then the military tried to kill all of them, so she left her husband and went on the run with Max, Liz, Michael, Maria and Kyle. In a VW van of all things." The look on her face should make it pretty clear what Isabel thought of that reality. "She turned up towards the end in Sunnydale and spent a few days hanging out with Xander."

"Of course she did. Alexandria's an adorable kid, you think I'd let her grow up without knowing about boots and Cartier?" Parker grinned a little. "I'm glad she got to meet Jack, finally. Sophia seemed to like her a lot too. She preferred her and Ananda to the rest of my kids."

"Right. That's completely bizarre," Parker said, after hearing the explanation of the Other Isabel. "You'd go nuts like that. But at least you weren't forty, like the other Parker who Xander met."

"I'm glad to. Jack gave her the bracelet I'd given him for Christmas," she said quietly. "So she'd know that he'd always love her. All I can think about is how that Isabel is going to react. If she'll recognize it and know what it means. It'll be a shock I'm sure. Fandom weirdness again after how many years?"

"Forty? And let me guess, she didn't go to Fandom."

You should so write that fic. "Hopefully she'll figure out how happy it made Alexandria, and try tobe okay with it. There are far worse outcomes." Parker sighed. "No, didn't go to Fandom, didn't date Jarod, and Xander's take on her was 'permanently lonely.'" She shook her head. "As weird as this last few days were, it does seem to indicate that's not my only choice."

*coughs* *doesn't look at open word file* "I think she'll be happy. I know if it was me, I'd want her to know Jack, however briefly." But it wasn't her, and it was doubtful her future would include kids. Not if she made it back to Antar.

"Yeah, you had what? Seven different choices?" Isabel laughed before growing more serious. "You've got friends that won't let you get to that point."

"More, even. A ton of kids knew me as 'Aunt Parker' or variations, but didn't expect me to have kids. So..." Parker shrugged. "Who can say? Jake and I were agreeing that at least Michael is never going to happen for us. Jake's happy with Krycek again. And Jeffrey was cute, but the idea of me and Broots-- just, no. Not ever no."

"Yeah, I can't see either Alexandria or Josh happening myself," Isabel admitted. "Too much weirdness in either case."

"Extreme weirdness." Ben and Elaine and Catie were still possibilities, but... not soon, please God. "I'm heading to Caritas tonight to get some serious drinking in with D'Anna. You're welcome to come along, if you want."

"Maybe," she shrugged. "Let me see if I go to class or not how I'm feeling. I'm tired."

"Totally understandable." Parker sighed, rubbing her eyes. "I still have a weekend's worth of notes on child-rearing to compare with you, but I've got to finish some reading for class. See you in Hunting?"
