Library [04/17]

Sam managed to pass all of his kids off to other people to watch during his library shift, except for his Ethics egg baby. But, he didn't think he had to worry much about Benedict making a mess.

[Open! Please do not break the egg baby, but feel free to break Sam. *g* I will be on slowplay during the day.]

"Are you going to name the people getting eaten after people you don't like? That would be my suggestion," Sam said. "The dragon books are further down here," he added, pointing.

"Oooh, can I?" She got down on her hands and knees until she found the ones that looked interesting, then plopped down on her butt on the floor. "Like if I get a little brother and don't like him, he can be eaten by dragons?"

And again, Sam had to go with giving his daughter a strange look. "I don't know about that. First of all, little brothers are awesome. And secondly, I don't think you'll be getting one anytime soon. But if you do, you should probably have the dragons eat someone else."

"No, probably no little brothers or sisters for a little while longer," Maggie told him with a big sigh. Everyone else had them, but no, she had to be different, "I don't like my science teacher..."

"Now you make it sound like you want a brother or sister," Sam said. "You don't like science?"

"I want one, but I want to have a backup plan in case I get a bad one. And I like science, but Mrs. Springer keeps telling me I have way too much imagination and that there's no such thing as the ghosts and werewolves and vampires," she pouted, "Stupid teacher."

"Hey, you turned out pretty good. So, odds are, your mom and I wouldn't do too badly with a sibling," Sam pointed out, and boy, was that weird to think about. "As for your teacher, you've got to remember, there are a lot of people who won't believe in that kind of stuff until they're face to face with it."

"I knoooooow," she sighed, stacking a couple of books on top of each other, "but just because she doesn't know any better doesn't make me wrong."

"Okay, you have a point. She shouldn't tell you you're wrong like that," Sam said, because he wasn't about to start arguing with Maggie. She was starting to remind him way too much of Dawn.

"Would you write her a note that says that?" She asked hopefully.

Sam laughed. "'Dear Teacher, Please don't tell Maggie she's wrong, because she's way smarter than you, and it hurts her feelings. Sincerely, Mr. Winchester.' You mean something like that?"

"YES!" Maggie hopped up and hugged his legs, "That would be perfect!"

Sam wasn't sure if he'd be screwing things up by doing this, but he couldn't say no when Maggie looked so pleased. "Okay, get your books, and let me go get some paper from the front."

"Yay!" She carefully reshelved a couple of inferior books without dragons, then followed her dad up to the counter, carrying three others. With pictures.

After grabbing a pen off of the counter, Sam found a clean sheet of plain paper, and set about trying to sound as professional as possible.

Dear Mrs. Springer,

It has come to my attention that you have been telling my daughter Maggie that her stories about monsters and ghosts are not true. I feel it necessary to inform you that she is not lying. Maggie is a good girl, and would never lie to a teacher, especially since she is smarter than you. Please keep this fact in mind in the future.

He handed the note to Maggie for her to read. "Am I missing anything?"

Maggie took a little while reading the note, sounding out a word or two as she went. Then she looked up at Sam and grinned. "Uh uh. This is good. Thank you."

She couldn't wait to hand it over in school.

Sam smiled, blissfully unaware of the havoc he was going to wreak on some poor teacher through his innocent-looking child. "You're welcome. Did you find all the dragon books you wanted?"

"Uh huh," she nodded, slipping the precious note into the back pocket of her jeans, then asked, "Is it okay if I go back to your and Mommy's room and read?"

"Sure, that's fine," Sam said. "Just make sure you go straight there, and don't wander."

"No wandering," she promised, not worried about whether the door was locked or unlocked. It wasn't like she couldn't pick the lock--eventually.
