Library [04/17]

Sam managed to pass all of his kids off to other people to watch during his library shift, except for his Ethics egg baby. But, he didn't think he had to worry much about Benedict making a mess.

[Open! Please do not break the egg baby, but feel free to break Sam. *g* I will be on slowplay during the day.]

The library was closed for lunch, to everyone except the librarian and other aides.

Sam wouldn't kick any of his kids out if they showed up though.

Grace loved her Daddy, but he really couldn't cook. Deciding she'd much rather explore than eat his idea of lunch, she slipped off and headed to the library. She'd overheard that Sam worked there today and she hadn't seen him in ages and ages.

Pushing open the door she walked in and called out, "Sam? I'm here to visit you!"

Sam looked up at the sound of his name coming from someone who seemed a little too young to be doing so. "Uh. Hi?" he said. At least she wasn't calling him Dad - that was a start.

"Hi!" She ran to him and hugged him --- or at least his legs as that was as high as she can reach. "Missed you! I haven't seen you in ages and ages!"

"I, uh, I've missed you too," he said cautiously, giving her a gentle pat on the back. "Are you missing your mom and dad?"

Grace shook her head. "No, silly." She leaned forward and lowered her voice to a whisper. "I snuck off."

Something Dean had said to him the day before, about who he'd seen when he'd met up with their dad, finally clicked, and he looked down, wondering if he was, in fact, looking at his future little sister. "Did you sneak away from your mom, or from Dad?" he asked. "I don't think either of them would appreciate that."

"Dad," Grace said, then scrunched her face up. "He was cooking lunch."

Anyone who made that face about his dad's cooking was definitely a Winchester. Not that that made Sam feel any less weirded out, but at least he was able to try to fake staying calm better. "Ew. Sounds like you escaped just in time," he said. "Do you want some of my lunch?"

She nodded enthusiastically. "Yes, please."

"Okay. You're lucky I packed my usual lunch," he said, smirking. Actually, he'd just packed the lunch he took when he knew he'd be hungry - two sandwiches, an apple, an orange, a bag of potato chips, a bag of pretzels, and a small bag of cookies.

"Do you like peanut butter and jelly, or turkey and cheese?" he asked, knowing full well that was probably a silly question to ask a child.

"Peanut butter and jelly," Grace replied, scampering up into Sam's lap.

It was one thing when the kids claiming to be his did this sort of thing, but having someone who could be his little sister climb in his lap was an entirely different - and not unpleasant - feeling. "I figured as much," he teased, handing her the sandwich. "Do you want to share my orange with me when you're done?"

"Yes, please," Grace said again though it was much less understandable this time because her mouth was full of pb&j.

"No talking with your mouth open," Sam chided, pausing for a moment before adding. "And no talking to boys at all, unless you're related to them."

Grace chewed and swallowed before speaking again. "Why Sam?"

"Because boys are stupid," he said, thinking Maggie had phrased it best.

She gave him a sympathetic look, then reached up and patted his cheek. "You're not stupid Sammy."

Sam laughed. "I know I'm not stupid, and Dean isn't either, most of the time. But awesome brothers don't count." Glancing at the clock, Sam realized that he should probably call his dad and let him know where Grace was. "Don't move," he told her, before going around the desk to leave his dad a voicemail.

Grace watched her brother on the phone, one hand creeping towards the bag of cookies when she thought he wasn't looking.

Sam snapped his phone shut and glanced back at Grace just in time to see where her hand was going. "Excuse me, young lady. Have you finished your sandwich?"

"Almost," Grace said with wide innocent eyes, snatching her hand back.

"Okay," Sam said smirking. "When you finish your sandwich, if you ask politely, you might get a cookie."

"You won't eat them before then, will you?"

"Probably not," Sam teased. "I don't eat that quickly."
