Anakin was standing next to his desk watching a little girl in a pink hat coloring a picture.

He looked exhausted.

"Okay," he said when the students arrived. "This week we're scheduled to talk about the ethics of parenting. I didn't make the little ones appear!" he said quickly. "I was going to give you egg babies instead."

He pointed at the crate of eggs on his desk. "So you're still getting paired up because it's your final project for class, but I'm sure many of you have more insights on this area than you would have, oh, say, Saturday." He smiled wryly. "And I'm guessing a life of celibacy is looking fairly appealing."

He pulled out a list of names. "Anyway. Here are your parenting teams. Take an egg, name it, give it a backstory, and bring it back in one piece this time next week. Listen for your name, then pair up and chat.

Irulan and Dean
Walter and Valentine
Jake and Blair
Kaoru and Neil
Draco and Steerpike
John and Jaye."

Anakin smiled. "So...anyone have stories to share?"

"Certainly," Steerpike shrugged. "How about 'Satan'?"

Draco shrugged. "Works for me. Kid's going to have a lot to live up to."

"I'm sure between the two of us, we can make sure he does so."

Draco wasn't really sure how to make an egg evil but he'd do his best. "So you just want to trade Satan off every other day? I've got no class after tomorrow so my week is free for um, egg sitting."

"That sounds fine to me," And would require the least effort on both of their parts. "Would you like to take it today to start, or shall I?"

"You better take it today, I've still got another class after this." said Draco.

"Of course. And I'll bring it to you tomorrow morning for your . . . shift."

"Sounds good." said Draco. "And I've seen a lot of TV shows where people had to do this project. I learned that you need to be careful sitting down and don't let it near a kitchen."

Steerpike nodded. "I'll make sure to remain aware of that. Perhaps we should label Satan."

"That's a good idea. You'd have to be really stupid to eat a egg labeled 'Satan'" said Draco. "That's like someone asking for a disease."

"It's a name that demands respect," Steerpike agreed as he pulled a permanent marker from his bag. "And one that's not likely to be used by any of our fellow students."
