Anakin was standing next to his desk watching a little girl in a pink hat coloring a picture.

He looked exhausted.

"Okay," he said when the students arrived. "This week we're scheduled to talk about the ethics of parenting. I didn't make the little ones appear!" he said quickly. "I was going to give you egg babies instead."

He pointed at the crate of eggs on his desk. "So you're still getting paired up because it's your final project for class, but I'm sure many of you have more insights on this area than you would have, oh, say, Saturday." He smiled wryly. "And I'm guessing a life of celibacy is looking fairly appealing."

He pulled out a list of names. "Anyway. Here are your parenting teams. Take an egg, name it, give it a backstory, and bring it back in one piece this time next week. Listen for your name, then pair up and chat.

Marco and Molly
Katara and Sam
Balthier and Turtle
Irulan and Dean
Walter and Valentine
Jake and Blair
Kaoru and Neil
Draco and Steerpike
John and Jaye."

Anakin smiled. "So...anyone have stories to share?"

Molly grinned. "You did? Can I see it?"

A drawing of three stick figures standing in front of house came rocketing over to Molly's desk.

The girl stick figures were wearing matching hats. The taller boy stick figure was scowling.

Awwwwww.

"Oh, that's really good! Is this our house?"

Trudi nodded excitedly. "We went to Ikea Island last week and got new chairs! I ate four hot dogs!"

"So, we live here on the island all the time?"

Trudi nodded again. "Daddy teaches and you're a mommy when you're not off superheroing."

A wave of sad longing washed through Molly. She looked at the picture and tried not to cry.

"Are we happy?" she asked.

Trudi hopped out of the chair and ran over to give Molly a hug. "Don't be sad, Mommy."

There was some definite sniffling as Molly picked up Trudi and hugged her back. She was smiling when she set the small girl on her lap though. "I'm okay," she said. "You are happy though, right? With me and your dad? Living in Fandom?"

Trudi nodded hard. "Daddy smiles more there," she said.

Molly glanced over at Anakin. "Daddy is just learning to be happy again right now," she said.

Trudi mulled that over. "Does he need more hugs?" she asked.

Molly smiled. "Yeah, I think he does. Should we go hug him?"

"YAY!" Trudi said, then clapped her hands over her mouth. "Gotta be sneaky," she told her mother, waving her hand like Dad did.

She didn't know why he did that, but it looked Cool.

"Okay," Molly whispered. "How should we do it? I could distract him so you can sneak up on him. Do you think that will work?"

Trudi nodded. "Yes!"

She giggled. "He's going to be so surprised!"

Molly hugged Trudi again before standing up and setting her daughter down in her seat.

"Stay here until I get him to turn his back, okay?" she whispered.

"Okay!" Trudi whispered loudly.

Molly walked up to the front of the room while the rest of the class were still discussing egg babies and magically appearing children. She cleared her throat. "I need to ask you a question," she said quietly and gestured him to the side of the room. She positioned herself such that he would have his back to the class if he stood in front of her.

Anakin followed her, a frown creasing his forehead.

He could feel Trudi's glee all the way across the classroom.

"Yes?"

Molly shifted just a little so that she could see Trudi past Anakin.

"I just wanted to make sure we have everything straight about who has Trudi when. You're taking her until dinner, right?"

Trudi snuck up behind him with all of the stealth of a baby elephant.

Anakin carefully smothered a smile as he nodded at Molly's question. "I figured we'd head out to the park after classes," he said.

Molly looked up at Anakin and did her best to fight down a smile of her own.

"Maybe you can wear her out a bit. Getting her to sleep last night was hard. I blame your genetics for that, by the way."

Anakin raised an eyebrow. "Oh really?" he asked.

Trudi chose that moment to tackle him from behind.

"Stealth hug!" she cried, giggling. "Were you surprised?"

"Very," Anakin assured her, clinging tightly.

Before Anakin could react further, Molly joined in the hug. "Stealth hug!" she giggled.
