Ethics [Monday, April 16, 5th period]

Anakin was standing next to his desk watching a little girl in a pink hat coloring a picture.

He looked exhausted.

"Okay," he said when the students arrived. "This week we're scheduled to talk about the ethics of parenting. I didn't make the little ones appear!" he said quickly. "I was going to give you egg babies instead."

He pointed at the crate of eggs on his desk. "So you're still getting paired up because it's your final project for class, but I'm sure many of you have more insights on this area than you would have, oh, say, Saturday." He smiled wryly. "And I'm guessing a life of celibacy is looking fairly appealing."

He pulled out a list of names. "Anyway. Here are your parenting teams. Take an egg, name it, give it a backstory, and bring it back in one piece this time next week. Listen for your name, then pair up and chat.

Marco and Molly
Katara and Sam
Balthier and Turtle
Irulan and Dean
Walter and Valentine
Jake and Blair
Kaoru and Neil
Draco and Steerpike
John and Jaye."

Anakin smiled. "So...anyone have stories to share?"

"I've never even--!" Molly said indignantly. "She just showed up!"

Marco blinked. "What?"

Molly looked at Trudi to make sure she was far enough away that she wouldn't overhear. "She's not actually mine," she whispered just in case. "A version of me is her mother, but I don't see how I would end up as her mother."

Marco blinked. "Fandom is out doing itself in wackiness?"

Molly nodded emphatically. "I guess you didn't end up with any kids then?"

Molly grinned. "Well, now you have an egg. Boy or girl?"

"Boy." Marco decided. "Name?"

Molly picked up the egg and studied it. "Hmmm, we could name it after you, I suppose. Marco Jr.?" she asked with a teasing grin.

Marco gave an exaggerated groan. "Please, anything but that!"

"Let's call him Hammy," Molly suggested.

"Sure! Hammy it is. Welcome to the world. It gets weirder."

Molly giggled.

"I can take the egg after class since Anakin is taking Trudi, but I don't want to risk Hammy with a six year old around. Could I drop him off with you later?"

"Sure. My only child is the very awesome X-Box I got my hands on. Hey, I could teach the kid how to play! Or something."

Molly giggled again. "I'll be really impressed if he learns to play X-Box."

"It's not that hard! You just press buttons! Sure, some say you need thumbs and you know, a brain for it, but hey, I'm sure our kid will be as smart as he's pretty so well manage something."
