Anakin was standing next to his desk watching a little girl in a pink hat coloring a picture.

He looked exhausted.

"Okay," he said when the students arrived. "This week we're scheduled to talk about the ethics of parenting. I didn't make the little ones appear!" he said quickly. "I was going to give you egg babies instead."

He pointed at the crate of eggs on his desk. "So you're still getting paired up because it's your final project for class, but I'm sure many of you have more insights on this area than you would have, oh, say, Saturday." He smiled wryly. "And I'm guessing a life of celibacy is looking fairly appealing."

He pulled out a list of names. "Anyway. Here are your parenting teams. Take an egg, name it, give it a backstory, and bring it back in one piece this time next week. Listen for your name, then pair up and chat.

Irulan and Dean
Walter and Valentine
Jake and Blair
Kaoru and Neil

John and Jaye."

Anakin smiled. "So...anyone have stories to share?"

Katara grinned. "I'll promise Dawn I won't think anything inappropriate about the egg baby assignment." She eyed the egg. "What do you want to name it?"

Sam smirked softly. "That depends. Do you think we have a boy egg, or a girl egg?"

"A boy egg," Katara said definitively. She'd had too much of daughters in the past 24 hours.

"Okay, a boy egg it is. It would probably be wrong to call him Benedict, huh?" This was Sam on a serious lack of sleep.

Katara giggled. "No. As long as no one takes it as an invitation!"

Sam laughed. "No, it's definitely not an invitation, and anyone who takes it as such will have to answer to us."

"I'll freeze them to the wall," Katara agreed. This was, apparently, her threat du jour. "So how should we do this? D'you want to trade off days? Or should each of us keep Benedict for half the week?"

"I don't mind trading off days," Sam said. "Either way, I know I can keep him tomorrow. I'm in the library all day, so it'll be easy for me to keep track of an egg."

"Oh! That would work," Katara said. "And I don't think I should take him on Thursday because I'm at the post office and Not Tiddles might try to knock him off the counter. ...or he might accidentally get mailed."

"I'm pretty sure mailing your egg baby counts as failing," Sam said, snickering. "I can take him on Thursday, and then Saturday too."
