Library - 4/7

Coffee and a list of vendors she needed to call about prom stuff in hand, Isabel opened the library on time.

[ooc: RL trumps all today. Pretty much AFK till sometime this evening.]

Nothing gets done until the coffee has been enjoyed.

First call, the caterer. Yes, they did want a selection of appetizers, not just cocktail weinies.

Second call, still trying to track down a gondola or two. Pirogues (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pirogue) were not an acceptable substitute.

Third call, the tent people. Finally good news, they'll be setting it up next Thursday.

The library is closed for lunch unless you're the librarian or an aide.

Isabel was actually doing library work, reviewing who had overdue books, and filing away the Special Collections permission slips.

She made a quick pass around the library to straighten up, then checked out a few books for herself.

Parker stopped between Forensics and Hunting, looking thoughtful before waving to Isabel. "Hey, you. How goes it?"

"Now I know why you were getting so frantic as prom approached last year," Isabel said, rolling her eyes. "Stupid vendors."

"Ah, the joy of Prom prep." Parker grinned as she leaned on the counter, shaking her head. "How many of them have gotten lost so far?"

"The big problem I'm having is getting authentic gondolas," she explained. "They were trying to convince me a pirogue would be just as nice. I said it's a Night in Venice, not a night in the Cajun swamp."

"Punters. And yay for your persistence, it's the real thing or nothing," Parker vowed. "Although now I remember one more reason I'm glad I didn't go out for StuCo this year."

"Ah, it gives me something to focus on," Isabel shrugged. "Of course that might change by next weekend. I'll probably be going crazy."

"More than likely. But I have faith in your ability to make it come out right." Parker frowned, remembering her talk with Jack. "I have another problem at the moment, though."

"Oh it will be right, if I have to build the gondola myself."

She leaned against the desk and looked at Parker expectantly, "What can I do?"

"Have you talked to Jack since this weekend?" Parker lowered her voice, and checked around for squirrels and shrubbery. "Because if you haven't, there's something you need to talk to him about."

Isabel sighed, "I saw him Monday night. I could tell something was wrong, but he wasn't willing to talk about it." Following Parker's lead, Isabel looked for small furry critters, ready to toss them out by their tails if needed. "He told me to talk to Sam. So I did, in class yesterday. I know what happened."

"Whew. Good." Parker took a breath. "Is it just me, or does the idea of Lana Lang doing that strike you as vanishingly unlikely to the point of absurdity?"

"It does seem really, really not like her," Isabel agreed. "But I got distracted worrying about Jack and I never really thought about it after that."

"I mean, totally aside from the magic-- which as far as I've ever heard, Lana can't do-- there's the sheer nastiness of hurting Jack. And she has a boyfriend. It just doesn't make sense."

"Magic?" she asked puzzled for a moment, but then it made sense. "Yeah, I suppose that had to be how she did it. But when did she suddenly get magical powers?"

"Unless she's secretly been an alien for the last year-- and let's face it, you do that better," Parker said dryly, "Or somehow got a hold of alien technology? I don't see another way. Magic is sadly easier to get here than advanced tech. And easier to screw up."

"Wait a minute," Isabel said, heading behind the desk to flip through the file that held the passes people had used to get into Special Collections. "Lana went into Special Collections last week."

"Oh, for the love of... Gaaaah." Parker knocked her head on the counter. "Perfect. Doesn't that just explain way too much."

"Yeah, Logan Echolls all over again," she sighed. "At least I'm not bouncing. But honestly, if it meant Jack was okay, I would bounce."

"I'd be happy to, I don't know, shower in Nyquil for a while..." Or worse. Parker drummed her fingers on the countertop. "That thing doesn't have any info about which book, does it?"

"No, it doesn't" Isabel replied, shaking her head. "I'm going to have to talk to Mrs. Readman."

Parker checked her watch; they were due in Hunting in less than ten minutes. "Tomorrow, I guess. And maybe try to find out if Lana's been weird to anyone else." She frowned, and offered, "Jamie's a chihuahua."

Not much of a segue, if you know Jamie.

Isabel snickered, "That was him? It's oddly appropropriate."

Parker snickered too, then added, "He said it was a spell, but couldn't tell me much more. Meet up with you tomorrow, after we've had time to snoop around a bit?"

"Sounds like a plan. Oh, and I'm cooking dinner for Jack and Cedric tomorrow night if you want to come by," Isabel offered. "There's going to be more then enough."

"Ooooo. You know I'm there, then. I'll see you at dinner." She checked her watch. "And I'm getting an early start at Hunting. Good luck on your own part of the snipe hunt."

"Thanks! I'll see you there."

Isabel's in Hunting. The library is closed unless someone else is around.

Sorry for the lack of availability. I'm having a bunch of people over for dinner today and will be cooking for most of the day.
