Tremble Foolish Mortals: The Gods and You, Class Ten [Period 5, Thursday]

Ares was fiddling with the controls of the dangershop as the class trooped in.

"Monotheism," he said, finally. "Clearly one of the worst ideas ever. Spawned by egotistic, cowardly gods who can't take a little competition when it comes to getting worshippers."

In case the class couldn't tell this was something of a sore spot for him. "And that's pretty much all I have to say on the matter."

"However," he said, touching a control and causing a vast ~~CGI-ed~~ structure to appear. "Since I'm under contract to deliver a lesson more than one paragraph long, today you're going to be recreating a battle between minions of one of these One Gods as set down in the mindless blatherings of that blonde ~~which I only read to see what she wrote about me~~."

"Half of you are going to be demons, the other half angels," he said, and waved a hand. "You can pick which side you want to be on, and I've configured the dangershop so that once you've put on the provided costumes, the wings won't just be decorative. You'll be able to fly ~~like you're doing wirework~~ and hopefully fight while flying as well."

...and Annette giggled and totally whipped around, flapping her wings and flying around in circles to try and through Rikku off, or make her dizzy one.

Ha-ha! Rikku countered by ... also going in really fast circles! Being hyper gave you a pretty high tolerance for dizziness.

"Crap!" Her plan was backfiring and Annette's head began to swim a little too fast. Flapping her wings, she tried to keep an eye on Rikku, but was failing.

She sort of floated back to the ground and weaved a little where she stood. The tip of her sword pointing downward in her lax hand.

"Haha!" Rikku announced triumphantly, swooping down towards Annette. "Now I've got you! And I'll ... whoa." Okay, things were a little spinny, maybe...

She wasn't sure which direction was up, exactly, but it probably wasn't the one she just crash-landed in.

"When ... I get up? I'm ... totally gonna get you," she managed.

"When you stop moving? I'm totally going to kick your butt." Annette looked a little green. She dropped her sword, smacked her hand over her mouth, and blinked rapidly.

Rikku stayed on the ground. It seemed to move less when she stayed still.

"Hey! Maybe this is what we're supposed to learn about monothe- mono- thing. It doesn't work and you just get all dizzy."

She squinted over in Annette's general direction, although there were a few of her so that was hard. "Maybe we should put aside our ... difference-thingies. Work together."

That would be an evil grin. "And go beat the crap out of everybody else."

"That? Is the best idea ever, Rikku! Good and Evil together! Conquering the...rest of them!"

"Everybody that gets in our way! And a few that don't! Good and Evil and stuff!" She waved her foam sword around and tried to stand up. Slowly.

"Right on! Whooo!" Annette didn't move yet though. She still sort of just swayed, raising her brows, trying for desperately for gracefulness. "Go us!"

"We're gonna - smack the crap out of them. Blonde cheerleaders for ... dunno! Maybe just for us." She put her hands on her knees, and took a deep breath. "In a minute. We'll ... let them get a headstart."

"Kind of like..hide and seek...only with good and evil. Except we're on the same side cause we're cheerleaders and we totally rock." Annette took a deep breath then looked up. Whoa, bad idea still.

"So...yeah...how 'bout those devils? Think they'll win today?"

"Yeah!" Rikku pumped a fist. "Are we good cheerleaders or bad ones? Maybe we're morally ambiguous cheerleaders?"

She grinned. "Nah, they don't stand a chance. We're gonna win. Cheerleaders! For ... being blonde and perky and kicking your butt!"

"Let me think about that. Um. Yeah, morally ambiguous. There is certain charm in being vague, right Rikku? Keeps people guessing is what I say."

"Cheerleaders for the win! Especially the blonde, cute, perky, and little cheerleaders who can kick butt and grin while doing it!"

"Yes! We're not for Good or Evil! We just go around breaking stuff 'cause we feel like it and stealing stuff 'cause we want it! ... Wait, that sounds kinda evil. Maybe we rescue puppies now and then for the heck of it?"

Rikku straightened up. Hey, the world stopped spinning! Score. "Never mess with a cheerleader. We're vicious. Especially the cute ones. The cute is totally a weapon."

"That's right! If we want it, we take it, just like that. And don't mess with us when we want something cause our wants are pretty fierce! Especially when we rescue those puppies or bribe the squirrels with rum!" Totally!

"Cute is as cute does, is what I always say! And we are very cute, Rikku. Let's fight with anyone who says we're not!"

"That's right! And we want - uh. What do we want? I totally want to go downtown and get some music, does that count?"

"Cute is all about beating the living crap out of anything and everyone possible. It's right in the charter. We should start our own, like, superhero group." She scratched her head. "Well, supermorally ambiguous cheerleaders group."

"Yeah! We want...uh...we want music and ice cream! Chocolate even! Now dammit! Someone better be listening to our wants over here. We're getting fierce! And blonde fierceness is soo cute!"

Annette gasped, "We could have our own shop clinic type thing! Beat The Living Crap Out Of People - For Hire! Support your cheerleaders who are undercover superhero's!"

"Chocolate ice cream! Now, or you get it!" Rikku pushed off tentatively and clapped her hands when she discovered she could hover without puking.

"Dude! That'd be awesome! We'd get to make money and beat the crap out of people! I so need to use my Godhand, it's sitting in storage! Ugh!"

"Now people!" Annette stomped her sockless foot. "Ice cream and pepto! On the double." Snap. Snap.

"Dude! The awesomeness that is us! We rock harder than anyone else who even thinks about rocking. And I need to use Dick!"

"And music! Bring us music that is really cool and has neat chant-things in it! There was some on the radio the other day and it was really cool."

"We rock beyond the capacity of others to determine rock-ness. And ..." She stared at Annette for a second, not knowing Annette's boyfriend's name. "I, uh, think maybe you said that wrong?"

"So we can dance like no tomorrow! And beat our heads in the hair like we just don't care!" So freaking cool!

"That's right; rockness is like non-rockness to them cause duh, they just don't get it." She blinked and clarified. "Dick can beat the crap out of people for me while you use your thing?"

"And dance around with our ice cream, that we are totally not sharing!" Rikku waved an arm in triumph.

"Their non-rocking-ness doesn't let them comprehend rock when they see it. Standard side effect."

She took a few seconds to parse Annette's sentence and then giggled madly. "Oh. OH! Dick's - Dick's a guy?" And clapped her mouth over her hand and blushed furiously, giggling harder.

"Anyone touches my ice cream their dead meat!" She shouted, fist raised in the air.

"Yeah, and we'll have to prescribe the drugs that they'll need to cope with that effect, then we'll kick the crap out of them and tell them Don't Do Drugs! Support your Rockin' Cheerleaders!"

Annette giggled too. "Dick is a guy. My guy." And she started humming.

"They'll need Anti-Loser pills. And we'll beat them with our foam bats. Or me and Dick can, and you can be, like, the person scheduling stuff in the front office."

She clapped her hands and squeed a bit. "Oooooh! Nice! Do I know him? I mean, which one is he?"

"Anti-Loser pills would cost them a bunch of money too. These non-rocking idiots better be prepared to pay up. Our services are not free! Yeah, I can schedule and every now and then I can watch you two kick butt. Dick's got a mean swing!"

Annette clapped her hands too. "I don't know. He's blonde, 6'1" and totally hot."
