Library - All Day Saturday

Yes, Sam was in the library on a Saturday. Between his classes and more personal interests, he had more than enough reading to do.

Tannim blinked at the seeming non-sequitor and wondered if he was being too flirtatious. "Where's your boyfriend?" he asked.

"Home," Willow said, looking mopey. "He's off doing kingly things and hopefully not getting hurt or dying or I will so kill him when I find out. But point being he's very good at diplomacy."

"When you say 'kingly things,' is that a metaphor?" Tannim asked.

"Nope." Willow shook her head. "Actual shiny hat."

"Wow," Tannim said. "I'm guessing he's not a local."

"British," Willow agreed. "Though his country isn't. There it's more of a Ren Fair meets Medieval meets talking animals kind of a place."

"Neat," Tannim said. "Where is it? What's it called?"

"Narnia, and dimension that's not here," Willow said. She left off the part about it being located in a closet since she knew Peter got pouty when she put it like that. "It's very pretty though. I got to visit over winter break."

"Sounds like fun," Tannim said. "Last alternate dimension I went to was hell. Literally."

"Did you try to end the earth and end up getting stabbed by your girlfriend?" Willow asked.

Tannim stared at her. "... No, I was helping a friend stop the Source of All Evil."

"Ohhhh," Willow said, recognizing what he was talking about. "That works too."

Tannim scratched the back of his head. "Do you, uh, know someone who tried to end the earth?"

"Angelus," Willow said. "He's evil and not a little psycho. Also? My BFF's ex. There's large amounts of awkward."

"Based on what little evidence is presented to me, I'm going to say your BFF has lousy taste in guys," Tannim said.

"Well he was Angel when she met him," Willow explained. "So broody, lurky, not really chatty, and far too into his hair, but otherwise he was pretty nice for a vampire."

"You'd think the vampire thing would've been a warning," Tannim said.

"Angel's got a soul," Willow said. "That means he's one of the good guys."

Tannim didn't know much about vampires, so he didn't have a response to that. He returned to his research, and pretty soon he spotted something. "Okay, here's a reference to Poseidon," he exclaimed.

Willow was ready to make with the note-taking. "Anything good?"

"Lots of information," Tannim said. "Not sure what's useful." He ran his index finger over the page as he skimmed the book. "God of the sea, earthquakes and horses - says here he claims to have created the horse. Greek, but he's got counterparts in Roman, Etruscan, and Illyrian mythology. Way too much info about his sex life - who writes this stuff?" He flipped to the front of the book to look at the author and date.

"Nothing about his sex life!" Willow said. "If that's where the solution is I do not want to know. We will go with option B: things that do not involve sex."

"Totally agreed," Tannim said. "Sailors used to drown horses as sacrifices before long voyages as a tribute to him - okay, I don't think killing more of his creatures is a good way to go here."

"No killing horsies!" Willow said. "Okay, plan C: things which do not involve sex or dead horsies. Or sex with dead horsies. Or sex with live ones for that matter. It can be between horsies and their god. Who is apparently Posiedon but you get my point."

"I think I do," Tannim said. "And I'm not arguing it." He read on further, flipped the page, and read some more. "Okay, here." He tapped a paragraph under an artist's version of Poseidon and one of his lovers. "People also gave him tributes when they prayed to him. It says the Greek gods looked favorably upon those who offered up gifts."
