If Sakura noticed anything amiss about some of her students today, she didn't bat an eye, instead directing their attention to the display screens, which featured a small ornamented mallet and a round board covered with Chinese trigrams. Not, perhaps, coincidentally, there were two lockboxes on the table.

"It's been my experience," she noted dryly, "that teenagers are even less inclined than usual to devote attention to their studies the week after a holiday. It would be a less than efficient use of my time to try and make you all pay attention today. So instead, you'll be examining a relatively harmless artifact: Uchide's Mallet, or the Mallet of Luck. It's the basis for the tale of the One-Inch Boy, and is said to grant its holder's wishes when swung, although its more common and obvious feature is the ability to make its wielder grow."

"Why is this dangerous?" asked Sakura, shrugging one shoulder. "You shouldn't have too much trouble imagining the kind of damage a rampaging fifty-foot creature can do."

She passed a stack of handouts around the room and continued, "The other object you'll be examining today is the Dragon Eye Compass Board, which uses the Chinese practice of Feng Shui to alter the luck of the people around you for good or ill. Please take a moment to read the handout and write a brief essay listing three ways you could use something like this to change your own fortunes. Once you've turned that in, you may come up and examine the Mallet."

"You're not so bad yourself," Dawn said, really looking at Dean. "You and Sam and I guess Alec are very lucky that you're such pretty girls. I would have thought you'd be too masculine, with your chins and shoulders and stuff."

"You mean like Seely on New Year's?" Dean grinned.

"Yes, that would be exactly what I mean," Dawn made a face at the memory. "Plech."

"Yeah. If I woke up looking like that..." Dean shuddered.

"You'd have seen it twice," Dawn realized, "and I don't know that Alec would have been pleased."

"Yeah, I suspect my morning would've been a hell of a lot different," Dean said with a smirk.

"And again with the possible TMI."

"Maybe," Dean said easily. "But it definitely made me feel more comfortable in this body."

Dawn thought about that for a few minutes. "Plus, you guys knew about girls because you've been with them before, right?"

"It's a bit different from the inside," Dean told her.

Dawn grinned. "You don't have to tell me that, Dean."

"Have to say, it's been an... interesting experience so far," Dean admitted. "Not one I'd have chosen maybe, but..."

"Yeah? How is it different?" Hey, she'd probably never have the opportunity to ask again.

Dean looked at her for a minute. "That might be TMI even for me," he admitted.

"Oh, sure, don't answer me. Leave me in the dark without a flashlight."

"I'm not sure I could explain it anyway. I don't know how much is just typical girl-boy stuff and how much is Dean stuff, if you know what I mean?"

"I guess so," Dawn said, not that she had much of either knowledge to use as a basis of comparison. "I'm not sure I'd handle waking up as a guy so easily."

"It helps that I got distracted almost immediately," Dean said. "Kinda short circuited the freakout vibe y'know?"

She grinned. "So, you're saying that it's my fault, for not distracting Sam as soon as we figured out what was going on?"

Dean considered. "Probably not. Sammy flails about things more than I do usually."

"I hadn't noticed that at all," Dawn said, playing with the ends of her own hair, "really. I would have thought you were both exactly the same."

Dean chuckled. "Sure you didn't. It's one of Sammy's charms, really."

"One of the many," Dawn said, "but I don't mind the flaily. I mean, you've met me, and it's not like I'm high on the calm-o-meter."
