If Sakura noticed anything amiss about some of her students today, she didn't bat an eye, instead directing their attention to the display screens, which featured a small ornamented mallet and a round board covered with Chinese trigrams. Not, perhaps, coincidentally, there were two lockboxes on the table.

"It's been my experience," she noted dryly, "that teenagers are even less inclined than usual to devote attention to their studies the week after a holiday. It would be a less than efficient use of my time to try and make you all pay attention today. So instead, you'll be examining a relatively harmless artifact: Uchide's Mallet, or the Mallet of Luck. It's the basis for the tale of the One-Inch Boy, and is said to grant its holder's wishes when swung, although its more common and obvious feature is the ability to make its wielder grow."

"Why is this dangerous?" asked Sakura, shrugging one shoulder. "You shouldn't have too much trouble imagining the kind of damage a rampaging fifty-foot creature can do."

She passed a stack of handouts around the room and continued, "The other object you'll be examining today is the Dragon Eye Compass Board, which uses the Chinese practice of Feng Shui to alter the luck of the people around you for good or ill. Please take a moment to read the handout and write a brief essay listing three ways you could use something like this to change your own fortunes. Once you've turned that in, you may come up and examine the Mallet."

"We could get together some time to go over my notes," Wyatt suggested. "To get you up to speed in class."

"That's very generous of you," Chris said. "But wouldn't your girlfriend get jealous?"

Deliberately baiting his brother? Never.

"No strings on me," Wyatt grinned.

Chris smiled back. "Well, then, I might have to take you up on that."

"I'm free tonight if you want to get an early jump on things," Wyatt said.

"Sure. Where should we meet?" Chris asked.

"What floor are you living on?" Wyatt asked. "What's your room number?"

"I'm on the third floor," Chris said, dodging the room number question. "But I have a roommate who is really obnoxious." He hoped that Summer would understand.

"What's the room number?" Wyatt persisted. "So I can find you and everything."

Chris sighed, realizing the gig was up. "306," he said, waiting to see what Wyatt's reaction would be.

"306?" Wyatt repeated. "Wait, that's my brother's room."

"Really? That's weird," Chris said.

That tone didn't exactly convince Wyatt. His eyes narrowed. "Just who are you?" he said.

Chris smirked, an expression that Wyatt should recognize even with the long hair and boobs.

Wyatt blinked. "What the fuck?" he said, pushing his chair back. "Chris? You're a girl?"

"Apparently," Chris replied, glancing around the room. "Don't think I'm the only one, either."

"Did the aliens do this to you?" Wyatt demanded, gaping at his brother. "Did they make you some kind of sick pervert, too?"

"I don't think it was the aliens," Chris said. "Look around the room. Half the guys in this class aren't here but there are a bunch of strange girls."

He smirked again. "And you can't tell me that you wouldn't have taken the opportunity to mess with my head if our situations were reversed."

Wyatt looked around took note of all the new "girls" and wondered who they were. Best to tread carefully until he knew. "Whatever, sicko," he snorted at his brother. "You've been reading Spooky Things fanfic again, haven't you?"

"Dude, no way, gross!" Chris exclaimed. "It's not like I was actually gonna let you touch me or anything."

Wyatt made a face and rubbed his temple. "God, I feel like I'm gonna throw up," he muttered.

Chris was very clearly amused. "If your default setting wasn't set to hit on every girl you met, this wouldn't have happened."

"It's not my default setting," Wyatt grumbled. He looked Chris over and grinned. "Not my fault you're such a cute girl. It really suits you."

"Whatever, dude," Chris rolled his eyes. "Name one girl you didn't hit on immediately upon meeting."

Wyatt ignored the question. "I wonder how Mom's going to feel about having a daughter now," he mused.
