If Sakura noticed anything amiss about some of her students today, she didn't bat an eye, instead directing their attention to the display screens, which featured a small ornamented mallet and a round board covered with Chinese trigrams. Not, perhaps, coincidentally, there were two lockboxes on the table.

"It's been my experience," she noted dryly, "that teenagers are even less inclined than usual to devote attention to their studies the week after a holiday. It would be a less than efficient use of my time to try and make you all pay attention today. So instead, you'll be examining a relatively harmless artifact: Uchide's Mallet, or the Mallet of Luck. It's the basis for the tale of the One-Inch Boy, and is said to grant its holder's wishes when swung, although its more common and obvious feature is the ability to make its wielder grow."

"Why is this dangerous?" asked Sakura, shrugging one shoulder. "You shouldn't have too much trouble imagining the kind of damage a rampaging fifty-foot creature can do."

She passed a stack of handouts around the room and continued, "The other object you'll be examining today is the Dragon Eye Compass Board, which uses the Chinese practice of Feng Shui to alter the luck of the people around you for good or ill. Please take a moment to read the handout and write a brief essay listing three ways you could use something like this to change your own fortunes. Once you've turned that in, you may come up and examine the Mallet."

"I'm Phoebe Halliwell. Welcome to Fandom High."

"I'm Chris," he replied, waiting to see if she'd figure it out.

Phoebe smiled. "Chris...?" Then her jaw dropped as she picked up the emotions from him... er her... er. "Chris?!" Luckily, Phoebe had already sat down by this point.

Chris shrugged. "Woke up this way." After a glance around the room, he added, "Don't think I was the only one either."

Phoebe ran a hand through her hair.

"Wow, you sure are getting the Fandom treatment this semester."

What? She's still a little shook over yesterday. Seeing her nephew as her niece wasn't traumatic.

"At least I'm not evil," Chris said. "Besides, I'm kind of hot."

Phoebe snickered. "This is true. Be thankful for small favors."

"How's everything going with you? Is Bel doing okay?" Chris asked. He'd been trying to give his aunt some space ~~since his player was busy with another plot this week~~, but figured he should check.

"Actually... I kind of need to talk to you about that. I was hoping that maybe you and or Wyatt could come by this fatrenoon with the book? There are some things I need to look up... and well, maybe it can give me some answers about something that happened to me yesterday."

"What happened?" Chris asked, instantly concerned.

Phoebe sighed. "I was at cheerleading yesterday and I got tossed in the air. The thing is... I got sort of stuck there."

Chris frowned. "So something is off with your levitation. Are your other powers working okay?"

"No my powers are fin-- wait. Levitation?"

"Yeah," Chris said. "I'm guessing you got stuck because something went weird with it?"

Phoebe just stared at him in confusion.

"Why are you looking at me like that?"

"Levitation?" she questioned again. "I'm an empath and a seer, Chris."

Chris frowned. "You didn't know you could levitate?"

Phoebe shook her head. "Uhmm, no. I thought my only powers were empathy and premonitions? As far as I knew, Piper, Paige and Prue got the really cool powers."

"From what I remember, you developed the levitation before the empathy, so I assumed it was something you could do," Chris said.

"So... do you think maybe the new power kicked in to keep me from falling yesterday when I got thrown too high?"

Chris nodded. "That's possible, yeah."

Phoebe thought about this for a moment. "So, in your time I had already had this power?"

She was ~~in no way thinking about how she could use this for hijinks in the bedroom~~ pondering what the development of a new power that she had no control over could mean.

"I wonder why I got stuck in mid air," she mused finally.

"I don't know," Chris said. "We can look in the book though. There might be information in there."

Phoebe nodded. "Thanks, Chris. Between Cole and I there seems to be a lot of new things going on where our powers are concerned."
