Library, Thursday [3/1]

Even though it was Spring Break, Yomiko was in the library today. And she figured she might as well open it up to one and all as a matter of courtesy.

((No OCD, as it is Spring Break. Also, I'm about to have to go to class, but I'll be back in a few hours.))

Hermione could cry, she's so happy to see the library open. She's wearing long sleeves and gloves, because being sixteen has allowed her to give in to a little vanity about all of this. She makes a few quick handwavey phone calls for help, and is ready to research, research, research.

Some of this stuff was just odd, Rikku thought, but odd seemed to be what Fandom was all about.

"OK, so, if you get bitten by a rabid mushroom, then ... at the full moon, you'll turn into a fungus. You won't be dangerous, but for the entire night, you'll keep entering bars, demanding service and making bad puns." She made a face. "Not that one, then."

Hermione's eyes widen. "I do know a couple of people who would probably enjoy that," she says, and flips the page of her book. It's not easy to do with gloves. "I don't think this book is helpful."

"That would be kinda fun," Rikku nods, giggling a bit at the idea. "Deranged drunken mushroom, on the loose!"

She sets her own book aside. "Maybe we need a different section? Was it a bewitched thing, maybe?"

"Could be," she answers, biting her lip. "I know lycanthropy in the general sense is really more of an infection, but I don't know how this would have started. I mean... it's a plant."

Rikku thinks for a moment. "Yeah, but there are some plants that are vicious. I mean, Venus Fly Traps, right? They attack bugs."

"And there are all kinds of fiends, but your dead seem to move on without sendings, so I guess that's not as likely here." She goes to the next book. "If your blood is turning green, then ... what do plants use for blood?"

"Can I help you?" Ms. Readman asked Hermione, sounding a little concerned. Not that she was surprised to see Hermione in the library during Spring Break, but she looked a little off.

"I need as many books on plantlife as possible," she says immediately.

"All right," Yomiko said, bringing up the catalog program on her computer. "But could you be a little bit more specific?"

"Lichenthropes," Hermione says, frowning. "Not lyca- L-I-C-H-E-N-thrope."

Yomiko froze for a momente before saying, "Um, okay," and looking up lichenthropes. "It's going to take a minute for the program to run," she explained.

Willow? So there on the library thing. Though she's also brought her laptop for online research purposes.

"Where should I start?" Willow asked Hermione, by way of greeting.

"Anything to do with sentient plants would be a big help," she says immediately. Not that she's thought about this or anything.

"Want me to take care of the online stuff or the things that come in the form of ex-trees?" Willow asked.

"You might be able to find different information online than we can here," she says. "Maybe try that first, and if it doesn't give us anything..."

"You got it," Willow said as she fired up Google and Demons, Demons, Demons. "I assume carnivorous or omnivorous at the very least? Or do we think the plant was acting strictly in a defensive capacity?"

Zack came in. "I'm not really a plant guy, but what do you want me to do?"

Hermione points to a stack of books on the table. "We're looking for anything to do with lichenthropes. Sentient plantlife, anything like that."

"Right," Zack said. "So, would the books for that that be under bestiaries or botany?"

"I think botany, though if we can't find anything, bestiaries is the next step."

Jo turned up, looking slightly puzzled. "Were-lichen?"

"Apparently so," Hermione says. "They're new to me, too."

"Too late to douse the bite in holy water like you do for werewolves?"

[smartestone]

Hermione winces a little and says, "I think so. Time to jump ahead to the next step, whatever it is."

Jo frowned. "You really better hope the next step is different to that for werewolves."
