Books are stacked on the desk, now it's time to read.

Valentine walked into the library, and walked over to the desk, poking at the stacks of books.
"What are these all about? Did you kill them?"



{ooc: I totally missed the big to-do yesterday. Apparently, I fail at keeping up with plot. If someone could explain to Valentine about the portal, I'd be ever so appreciative, thanks!}

"These are books," Isabel replied. "They contain information. Right now we're looking for information about portals."

Valentine looked from Sokka to Izzy, and then at the books incredulously. "I know what a book is. These ones are just decidedly less active than the ones back home." He looked up again, crossing his arms. "What about portals? I don't suppose someone else wants to try opening a door through time. Totally crazy notion, if you ask me."

"Lucas and Katara went through one and it closed after him," she explained. "I don't know if Lucas opened it himself or if it happened on it's own. That's what we're trying to find out."

"You mean, he wasn't lying or going completely daft on Monday when he spoke about it?" Valentine grimaced and experimentally prodded a book to see if it was going to take off before he took a seat. "What sort of information are we looking for, then?"

"What ever we can find," Isabel replied. "Does this happen often? Where, when does the portal go? Can we open it ourselves?"

"Ah," Valentine nodded faintly, grabbing a book and tapping it on the cover a few times.
Nope, still dead.
With a shudder and a grimace, he opened it and looked down at the pages inside. "Books are so much more useful before they've been killed."

Isabel couldn't help herself, she had to ask. "Killed?"

"Oh, you know," Valentine shrugged, rather nonchalant. "Flapping about, flitting from shelf to shelf and being a general nuisance. Granted, you don't need a net when they're dead, but after a while, the right book tends to relent and let you see what you need to read. If you're nice enough, anyhow."
Valentine tended to have horrid luck with books.


Proofreading is good. Yep. Re-posted because I fail at typing coherently.

"Yes, I'm sure you do," Valentine said, reading over the table of contents. Far, far more quietly, he added, "... probably killed it yourself."

"Uh... No. These books were just never alive." Sokka frowned. "I don't think, anyway."

He looked over at the book Valentine had. "Anything useful in that one?"

Valentine stared at the table of contents a moment more and then shrugged. "I don't think so. The scientific babble in this thing is a little over my head." He looked up at Sokka. "You found anything yet?"

Will headed back to the library before her classes to return the books she'd taken out on Monday and since the mun had missed out on Tuesday's plot event due to RL heaviness. She was surprised to see so many people in here again.

"Wow, the library's a popular place this week."

"Research party," Isabel explained. "Lucas and Katara got stuck in a portal. We're trying to figure out how to get them back."

Will's eyes went wide. "Oh no! He said he was going to go check it out, but getting stuck back ... wherever that rip went to is awful. Need any help?"

Isabel waved at the books. "Pick a book and start reading. There has to be an answer somewhere."
