For your lunch time chatting.

After balancing his backpack full of books, laptop, folder of handwritten looseleaf notes and his stacked lunch tray, Lucas finally made it to a table to sit and eat. He had a book open and was writing some notes.

"You got the midterm from hell coming up, or something?" Turtle really couldn't help noticing all of Lucas' crap everywhere on her way to finding a place to sit and have her lunch.

Lucas was startled when someone sat down, but grinned when he saw it was Turtle. "Uhh no," he admitted. "I guess you could it a private project."

"Private project?" Curiousity piqued, Turtle was trying not to be intrusive and try to look at what some of the notes and books said, but she wasn't trying very hard. "Will there be much money made from said project?"

He had to think about that for a moment. "Well, right now it's just an experiment, but it could have practical applications that could be worth a lot."

Turtle laced her fingers in front of her, tray to the side completely forgotten as she leaned in toward Lucas. "Really?"

Lucas raised his eyebrows. "Really," he replied with a fledgling half-grin. "I guess I could *maybe* let you in on it. If you're interested." Lucas was not used to such attention from girls. He was enjoying it way, way too much for his brain to be working 100%.

Pity it wasn't so much Lucas she was interested as the prospect of an investment. "I may be. Of course, I'll need to know more before I can lay down anything concrete."

Lucas' brain didn't make the distinction, so he was fine and dandy in happy delusional Lucas land. He leaned in and lowered his voice. "I found something out in the Preserve. A portal. I've only done preliminary studies, but I *think* it might lead to some other time. I don't know if it's the future or the past, but if I can just understand how it works, I'll be a step closer to understanding how time travel and multiverse travel works. Once it's understood, then it's only a matter of harnessing it. People would pay big bucks for that kind of power."

Valentine sidled up nearby, peering over Lukas' shoulder with his own tray balanced in his hands.
"Doing something no doubt brilliant and far over my head, I see," he stated with a grin.

Demyx peered over Valentine (on his tiptoes) peering over Lucas. "Everything's over my head," he admitted cheerfully. "I'm not tall like you."

"It's a little over everyone's head," Lucas admitted. "Not really your standard high school homework."

"What sort of homework is it, then?" Valentine tilted his head and leaned in to get a better look. "Seems more complicated than unsticking hands, to me."

Lucas eyed Valentine and Demyx. "What do you guys know about time travel from where you come from?"

"Um." Valentine tapped a finger to his chin thoughtfully. "Time travels in one direction. Constantly. I think that's the general consensus no matter where you go, isn't it?"

"Time travel...not overly familiar with it." Demyx grinned slightly. "Inter-world, inter-dimensional type stuff, sure!"

Parker sat down, studying Kawalsky as she sipped her drink.

Kawalsky was having a bad day. And a bad day, like any other day, meant he was focused on his food rather than his surroundings.

Parker picked up her tray, stalked over to Kawalsky, and slammed it down in front of him. "Kawalsky. Hi."

Charlie looked up and finished his mouthful of burger. "Hey." He wasn't as stupid as he looked. She was mad about something, and had a fair guess as to what, and knew it was best not to make any sudden movements.

Parker studied Kawalsky's face and the bruise on his jaw with a certain amount of satisfaction. "Well, at least he got a couple good hits in." She glared at him, tapping a fork on her plate. "You couldn't wait until he was healed up to have your tantrum?"

Tantrum? Charlie had mostly calmed down over the Harkness thing after Sam and Alanna had talked to him, but being harassed by Harkness' harem wasn't his idea of fun. "He couldn't wait until he was healed up before mouthing off."

"Oh, spare me! Did he show up and say, 'ha ha ha, the little blonde is my daughter, you and Alanna will break up?' I don't think so." Parker put the fork down because she was getting the impulse to stab Kawalsky with it. "He said you were still pissed about Liz, too. Of all the *lame* ass things..."

"What the hell would you know, Parker?" Kawalsky took the bait. "I'm sure Harkness told you all about how bad and meeean I was to him. I don't hit people unprovoked, not even him. And sure, maybe the Liz thing was a long time ago, but you don't forget a guy who tried to hit on your girlfriend and kept it up knowing you were right there and then just did it to piss you off."
