Parker picked up her tray, stalked over to Kawalsky, and slammed it down in front of him. "Kawalsky. Hi."

Charlie looked up and finished his mouthful of burger. "Hey." He wasn't as stupid as he looked. She was mad about something, and had a fair guess as to what, and knew it was best not to make any sudden movements.

Parker studied Kawalsky's face and the bruise on his jaw with a certain amount of satisfaction. "Well, at least he got a couple good hits in." She glared at him, tapping a fork on her plate. "You couldn't wait until he was healed up to have your tantrum?"

Tantrum? Charlie had mostly calmed down over the Harkness thing after Sam and Alanna had talked to him, but being harassed by Harkness' harem wasn't his idea of fun. "He couldn't wait until he was healed up before mouthing off."

"Oh, spare me! Did he show up and say, 'ha ha ha, the little blonde is my daughter, you and Alanna will break up?' I don't think so." Parker put the fork down because she was getting the impulse to stab Kawalsky with it. "He said you were still pissed about Liz, too. Of all the *lame* ass things..."

"What the hell would you know, Parker?" Kawalsky took the bait. "I'm sure Harkness told you all about how bad and meeean I was to him. I don't hit people unprovoked, not even him. And sure, maybe the Liz thing was a long time ago, but you don't forget a guy who tried to hit on your girlfriend and kept it up knowing you were right there and then just did it to piss you off."

"He had a harpoon wound. How hard would it be to say 'later for this crap' and walk away?" Parker's anger was starting to move into the red zone. "And did Liz dump you for him? No? Thought not. Hmmm, who is it she went to Prom with, remind me? Oh, right. Not Jack."

Kawalsky shook his head and got to his feet. "You want 'later for this crap' and walk away? You got it." He wasn't in the mood today. He picked up his tray and moved to get out from under the table.

"Hey!" Parker stood up too, and temper abandoned at the curbside, knocked the tray upward and out of his hands. "You don't blow off damage like that, you jerk!"

"What the hell?" He managed to get out from under the table and stood at the end, unwisely within Parker's reach. "What is your problem? I hit the one guy you can't have to yourself, so you've gotta take the opportunity to play hero? Get a grip." He would regret that later. Right now he was pissed off as well.

And that earned Kawalsky an open-handed slap! Nicely loud, too. Parker had made sure it was on the unbruised side of his face. No reason for it not to show up.

Taking a step back, still furious, Parker said, "You complete and total idiot. That just shows how little you know me or Jack. YOU get a grip, you big baby!"

Kawalsky hadn't been expecting the blow, and he hadn't seen it coming. All he knew was that he'd just been hit. By a girl. In front of whoever else was in the cafeteria.

'Ow' came to mind. His hand came up to where he'd been slapped. He hadn't been slapped in a long time. He forgot how much it stung. "I deserved that," he eventually said, shook his head and turned to go.

Which completely took the wind out of Parker's sails, leaving her panting and furious and embarassed. She gulped, glared around the cafeteria, then grabbed her Coke, muttering, "You sure as hell did," as she headed out in the opposite direction.
