After balancing his backpack full of books, laptop, folder of handwritten looseleaf notes and his stacked lunch tray, Lucas finally made it to a table to sit and eat. He had a book open and was writing some notes.

"You got the midterm from hell coming up, or something?" Turtle really couldn't help noticing all of Lucas' crap everywhere on her way to finding a place to sit and have her lunch.

Lucas was startled when someone sat down, but grinned when he saw it was Turtle. "Uhh no," he admitted. "I guess you could it a private project."

"Private project?" Curiousity piqued, Turtle was trying not to be intrusive and try to look at what some of the notes and books said, but she wasn't trying very hard. "Will there be much money made from said project?"

[[ sleep well! ]]

He had to think about that for a moment. "Well, right now it's just an experiment, but it could have practical applications that could be worth a lot."

Turtle laced her fingers in front of her, tray to the side completely forgotten as she leaned in toward Lucas. "Really?"

Lucas raised his eyebrows. "Really," he replied with a fledgling half-grin. "I guess I could *maybe* let you in on it. If you're interested." Lucas was not used to such attention from girls. He was enjoying it way, way too much for his brain to be working 100%.

Pity it wasn't so much Lucas she was interested as the prospect of an investment. "I may be. Of course, I'll need to know more before I can lay down anything concrete."

Lucas' brain didn't make the distinction, so he was fine and dandy in happy delusional Lucas land. He leaned in and lowered his voice. "I found something out in the Preserve. A portal. I've only done preliminary studies, but I *think* it might lead to some other time. I don't know if it's the future or the past, but if I can just understand how it works, I'll be a step closer to understanding how time travel and multiverse travel works. Once it's understood, then it's only a matter of harnessing it. People would pay big bucks for that kind of power."

Turtle could only gawk. "...uh...wow." There was a pause as she studied Lucas' face carefully. You know, for signs of crazy. Looked pretty sane. "...Really?"

Well, if Tannim really created portals to the Underworld, it wasn't too off that Lucas would find portals to other times...

"Really. And it's all science. None of this magic stuff. I have preliminary readings and there's a history of this kind of thing on this island. I'm going to do an experiment with travel through the portal tomorrow if you want to see it for yourself."

Okay, now her interest was two-fold. "No magic, really?" Turtle looked thoughtful. "When did you plan on doing it? I'd love to see for myself, but I have club stuff." She pouted slightly. Scientific portals were viable excuses to miss club stuff, right?

"Tomorrow, probably around 7pm. That's when the next appearance should be."

Valentine sidled up nearby, peering over Lukas' shoulder with his own tray balanced in his hands.
"Doing something no doubt brilliant and far over my head, I see," he stated with a grin.

Demyx peered over Valentine (on his tiptoes) peering over Lucas. "Everything's over my head," he admitted cheerfully. "I'm not tall like you."

"It's a little over everyone's head," Lucas admitted. "Not really your standard high school homework."

"What sort of homework is it, then?" Valentine tilted his head and leaned in to get a better look. "Seems more complicated than unsticking hands, to me."

Lucas eyed Valentine and Demyx. "What do you guys know about time travel from where you come from?"

"Um." Valentine tapped a finger to his chin thoughtfully. "Time travels in one direction. Constantly. I think that's the general consensus no matter where you go, isn't it?"

"Time travel...not overly familiar with it." Demyx grinned slightly. "Inter-world, inter-dimensional type stuff, sure!"

"Well yeah," Lucas tried to explain. "Time travels in one direction, but there are theories that a person could travel back through time to some point in the past. I'm living proof of that, coming from 2019 when here it's only 2007. Fandom's like a hub where all these different timelines and universes and worlds have access to the one point in space-time. Here. Normally you can't see the rifts because they're too big or they're just not visible to the normal eye." He considered who he was talking to when he said 'normal' and wasn't too sure it was the right word. "But I think I found one, a small one, one I can see, so I'm trying to figure out how it works."

"So, basically, you're talking about a doorway. Through time. Sounds kind of iffy to me." Valentine stuffed a brownie into his mouth and took a seat. "But you've certainly caught my interest."

Demyx blinked at Lucas. "...Riiiiiight." He sat next to Valentine, poking at his cheeseburger. Cheeseburgers were unfamiliar territory. "In a more understandable language?"

"Pretty much what he said," Lucas replied, nodding at Valentine. "A doorway through time. Normally I *think* the doorways here do space and time so that pretty much anyone from anywhere can get here if there's a doorway in their world. So I'm trying to figure out how it works now that I know where one is."

"Do you know where, or when, the door leads to yet?" Valentine shoved the poked-at cheeseburger at Demyx. "Or it it just one of those 'step through and find out' things, as of yet?"
He idly wondered if it would be possible to charge admission to such a thing.
