As he goes around shelving books again, Bridge really wishes he'd had the time to grab another bucket-sized coffee from the Perk.

Zack wandered into the library. "Hey."

As Zack entered the library, some of the shadows near the door roiled slightly. Perhaps just enough to catch the edge of his attention.

Seeing someone move in the corner of his eye, Zack turned to get a better look.

The shadows swirled again when he turned. The temperature of library dropped slightly as the lights dimmed fitfully.

"Hello?" Zack called out. "Is there anyone there?"

A slight rustling - like the noise of a bird's wings was the only reply.

But the light in the room got darker as the shadows massed over Zack's head before dropping on him with a whoosh of cold and blackness.

Zack flailed like a flailing thing that flailed.

The shadows spun a web of blackness around Zack as they began to drain him of his strength and warmth.

Zack shook his head woozily. "Stop doing that, please?"

Too intent on their feeding, the shadows paid him no mind. They coiled about him and through him as the cold they carried became even stronger.

"Stop. I mean it," Zack said, teeth beginning to chatter.

Tannim decided to check out the library and see if there was anything fun to read, like car manuals.

There was a sudden chill in the air and the normal sounds of the room became muted. Out of the corner of his eye, Tannim might notice shadows moving where they shouldn't be.

Tannim looked at the shadows, then at the lights, then back at the shadows. Yeah. Something wasn't right here. He shifted into Othersight and looked again.

Shadows, still - but with a serious wrongness to them. Grey, shifting and shapeless, but with strands of energy woven throughout. Odd colors - nothing consistent, nothing that belonged.

Tannim brought up his strongest magical shields and backed away.

The shadows sensed something different about this one. He seemed blocked. Gathering quickly and rising into a column, the shadows rushed at Tannim. They struck the shield and gave an audible cry. Quickly they retreated. A sibilant whispering started, muting the sounds of the library even more.

Tannim shivered as the shadows struck his shields, but he held them in place. He focused on drawing power into his hand and threw a levin bolt at the shadows.

The bolt struck the form and, at first, it looked like the shadow was just going to try and absorb the free energy. Apparently though, it was the wrong kind because the electricity dance over the dark form and another cry went out, quickly rising beyond hearing. The shadow form swelled with the power crackling over it and finally just seemed to rip apart. The cry ended as the shadow form broke up and fled the library. The normal library sounds returned and the chill dissipated. The shadows under the tables and chairs were still and looked to be completely normal.

Bridge, who'd been kind of dozing at the collections desk, looks up with a start.

"What's going on?" he asks.

Tannim turned around to look at Bridge. "Something attacked me," he said. His eyes flickered around the library, looking for any sign that the shadows remained.

"You too?" Bridge groans. "Great. It really *is* an epidemic."

Tannim took a close look at Bridge. "Holy crap, did it get you?" he asked.

"Yeah," Bridge says. "I was tracking something up to the fifth floor a few hours ago, and all of a sudden there was *another* presence and then these shadow things were coming at me," he explains.

"Okay, that's bad. Have you seen any others around?" Tannim asked.

"Chris Halliwell," Bridge says. "And Cameron Mitchell. We went in to Special Collections earlier to see if we could find any information on how to stop it, but... nothing so far."
