Human Anatomy, Thursday, 1/25, Period 3

Elliot had arranged the desks in the classroom to look like tables for two in a restaurant, complete with tablecloths and rosebud vases.

"Hey people, I am hoping you are all yourselves today because we are learning about the digestive system." She hit a button on her laptop, and a powerpoint presentation of the system popped up. "The key parts of the digestive system are the mouth, the tongue, the esophagus, the stomach, the small intestine, the large intestine, and the anus. They work together to get food from the plate to, um, the bathroom." She explained the workings of each part in more detail, passing out a handout as she did so, before hitting another button on her laptop to bring up a media player.

"For doctors, it's one of the most important systems because pretty much everything about your body chemistry turns up in the output of the digestive system. To show you what I mean, here's a little song from a recent episode of a strangely true-to-life medical sitcom."

She played the video, humming along, before turning to face the class again. "I am not going to make each of you give a stool sample, because that's kind of unhygienic and the administration would probably get creeped out by it. But you will be testing the other end of your digestive systems. Each of you has an array of baby food jars containing food samples in front of you; your job is to pair up, take turns blindfolding each other,and feed each other to see how sensitive your tastebuds are. You should each have something sweet, something salty, something sour and something bitter."

"And as always, add a sketch representing at least part of the digestive system to your body tracings before the end of class but after you un-blindfold yourselves."

Chad finds many things about this class disturbing as he takes notes. Mostly the song.

Yes, you're getting class credit for blindfolding and feeding each other. Sample foods in the jars: kimchi, lemon sherbert, melba toast, bacon, dill pickles, prunes, and many more.

Neil, who was usually pretty quiet in this class, realized he was going to need to actually partner up and do the testing.

So, he gave Peter a rueful smile.

"Hey...need a partner?"

Somehow Marty knew that as soon as he was blindfolded the jars would be switched with completely disgusting items.

Chad was pretty much thinking along the same lines as Marty. Somehow, talking about the creation of feces and then going right to baby food, which often looked exactly the same going in as coming out didn't really sit well with him.

So he was..avoiding someone finding him as a partner, in the strange sort of 'maybe if no one partners with me, I won't have to do it' belief.

Janet had a sixth sense that let her home in on anyone who was feeling medically-related disgust. Really. It had nothing to do with the player also needing a wee bit of slowplay. She smiled at Chad. "Teacher-sanctioned snacking during class is a good thing, remember?"

Henry sketched in the digestive system. He was still humming the song from the video, albeit against his will.

Marty drew something but it just didn't have the artistic flair of Aeryn Sun. It was quite a disappointment.

Peter got to work on his sketching. He wasn't too sure he was getting it right, but he tried to take comfort in this not being art class.

The good thing about drawing internal organs was that you could pretty much draw a generally suggestive line and call it good. They didn't seem to require too much detail.

Hey! My work server's totally nuts these days, and I can't be online for the massive amounts of time RP requires 'til they get the problem fixed, probably a few weeks from now. Just wanted to let you know that's why I may be late signing in sometimes. (Hopefully not. But just in case.)
