Rory...may or may not have slept the night prior.

Didn't really matter when she had that much coffee fueling her.

"I still have to ask and she still has to say yes," John said and he was only a little bit nervous about that part.

"She will," Rory said confidently. "She already wears the other ring."

"Yeah," he said, nodding. "Yeah, that's right. This is top secret, no tell-y Aeryn."

"Of course," she said with a nod. "I won't say a word. Has she noticed anything up with you at all, or are you doing okay with the secrecy?"

"I'm doing okay," he said. "She almost caught me looking at rings stuff on her computer but I think she thinks I was looking at porn."

"...which, sadly, is better," Rory said, facepalming.

"Yeah," he said, wincing. "She'll know the truth in due time."

"At least she probably just thinks you were looking at normal porn," she offered.

"You're the one who told her about porn in the first place," John said without heat. "Let's avoid telling her about anything weird."

Rory nodded emphatically. "Though if she didn't hear from me, she'd hear from someone else."

"Oh, I know," he said with a nod. "And she just told me I had her for that kind of stuff. I didn't get my clock cleaned...this time."

"It could be worse," she assured him.

"Yep." He paused. "How?"

"You could have been making an instruction manual."

John rolled his eyes. "Been there, done that."

"Second edition!"

John rolled his eyes again. "No need for a second edition! I think I know how to please...Aeryn."

He'd almost said 'a woman' but he wasn't pleasing anyone but Aeryn.

"Good for you," Rory said, biting her lip to keep from laughing.

It was the first time she'd laughed in a long time.

"I'm supposed to be pretty good at it too," he said and made a show of buffing his nails on his shirt.

"That's nice," she said, letting out a snort. "If you write a manual, you can pass along that wisdom to others."

"I'll give you an autographed copy!"

"You won't have time to visit me here in the library anymore," she sighed. "You'll be jetting all over the world doing book signings."

"You're gonna be a library aide forever?"

"It is my calling," she said seriously. "I'm skipping college and living here."

"Make sure and build lots of forts to pass the time," John suggested.
