Adventuring Survival Tactics, Period 4, A Classroom, 4/12/07

The Doctor didn't have desks in the classroom today.

He had little swatches of carpet. About 18 inches by two feet, rectangular. In various moddable styles and colors. He gestured as for the students to sit on these bits of carpet. After the opening bell rang, he smiled.

"This is Adventuring Survival Tactics," the Doctor said. "And the first adventuring sruvival tactic you need you learn is that those carpets EAT PEOPLE!"

He made spooky fingers.

"Okay, maybe they don't," the Doctor said. "But they could. One some strange planet. Now something else to keep in mind is what you are, in fact, capable of. So that's today. It's a getting to know yourself, and each other, exercise. You'll tell us all your name, what you think your greatest strength is, what you think your greatest weakness is, and the weirdest fact you can think to share about yourself."

He brushed off his jacket. "I'll begin. My name is The Doctor. My greatest strength is, of course, being as fantastic as I am. My greatest weakness is the very rare ocassion when I am overconfident. The strangest thing about me is that I've suffered eight circumstances that would normally have been fatal, but I live on." He nodded. "Your turn."

After everyone shared, he smiled and clapped his hands together. "Fantastic. Now then, you're welcome to talk with your fellow students about the following situation for the rest of the hour. No homework for the next week, because I'm nice like that. Now, discussion topic. What would you carry in your pockets if you knew you were going out into a dangerous place. No backpack, no. Pockets only. What're you bringing? Discuss."

He was a bit smug at that. He knew that no one else had dimensionally transcendental pockets.

Pippi's first thought is of a clam shell in a glass that opens up to reveal floating fabric flowers. Then she thinks about grinding coffee. Then something about a gorilla at a Doctor's office.

Ami looked around to see who she was supposed to talk to. She thought about the question. She decided she would bring a pocket knife, duct tape, a mechanical pen and a small notebook and a box of matches.

"Oh yes, food" Ami slapped herself on the forehead "I forgot to think of food. I figured a pocket knife, duct tape, pen and pencil and matches. Maybe those meal-bars?"

Lana thought about it. The taser Veronica had given her for sure. Matches, maybe? Paper, cell phone...

Mostly she thought she just wouldn't want to go to a dangerous place.

"You could always try to get a collapsable sword," Dean suggested, only half joking. His own inventory would probably include a gun (because waistband of his pants was totally like a pocket, right?), the pocket knife Alec had given him for Christmas, the mini blow torch Dawn had given him (and boy did his friends know him or what?), a small flashlight, a vial of holy water just in case and his cell to keep in contact with Sammy and Dad and whoever else he was hunting with.

Not a gun, necessarily. Gun was good for violence, but not for other things.

"Currency, a communicator, and my blaster," Z said decisively. Hell, she'd made it just fine in the slums without any of the above, hadn't she? "And probably a knife or something, because my blaster kind of sucks."

What would he carry in his pockets? Jack frowned as he thought about it. A gun, definitely and always. Money or something of value for bribes. Maybe a first aid kit?

It really depended on what he was wearing and how deep the pockets were, he finally decided.

Summer thought about it for awhile. She'd have a cellphone in case of emergency. Possibly mace. Definitely her temper.

"In my pockets, I'd take a lighter, my phone, pocket-sized slim camera, multi-use knife, lip-balm, mini-torch, twine, gum..." most of this she carried with her daily anyway, "oh and my cig case in one of my back pockets and my flask in the other. Then, I'm bringing Krycek and Callisto." She grinned. The Doctor had asked two questions after all.

"If I just knew it was dangerous, and nothing else? A folding multi-tool with a knife, a couple of Power Bars for food, matches, a small flashlight.... Maybe some salt. Salt's usually good. And I'd try to bring a bottle of water, too, though that probably wouldn't fit in my pockets. Unless I was wearing cargo pants, so maybe it would," Tannim said.
