If there was one thing Darth Vader excelled at, it was making a memorable first impression.

He waited until the classroom was full, then stalked in, cape flaring behind him.

He twitched his fingers as he reached the center of the room and the door slammed shut behind him.

"I am Darth Vader," he intoned over the even mechanized breathing of his suit. "I trust you may have already heard of me." His masked face scanned the faces in front of him. If he was at all affected by any negative thoughts and emotions being directed at him, he wasn't showing it. "You will refer to me as either Darth Vader or Lord Vader. Any other address will result in detention." He began pacing the room. "You should be grateful for that. Very few have ever been granted advanced warning of my actions.

"Today we discuss how far over the line you would go to save someone you love." Vader's voice turned cold. "I don't want to hear that you wouldn't go over a line. Would you lie for someone? Steal for them? Kill for them? Does it matter to you if it's friend or family? Does how much you love--" and yes, the word sounded awkward coming from that particular visage, "--that person affect how far you would go for them?"

Vader crossed his arms over his chest and waited for the first student to speak.

{OOC: Roster and syllabus here. I'm starting my first day of work in an internetless environment tomorrow morning, so Vader will be responding late. Please don't burn the classroom down while I'm gone :).]

"If the life of someone I love was in danger, I don't think there is any line I wouldn't cross," Molly said.

Vader stared at Molly for a heartbeat too long.

"Really," he said. "You'd kill for someone? Not vampires or monsters. Someone who looked like you. Who cried out for mercy. Who begged for their life."

"No. I would not kill someone who asked for mercy," Molly told him. "I would only kill if the life of someone I loved was in danger. How could they be in danger from someone who is begging for their own life?"

"If the death of the one begging was the price of your loved one's release, for example," Vader said. "Entire planets can be held hostage in this way."

"Death of an innocent person for the life of someone I loved?" Molly paused for thought. "It is easy to say that I would break the world to save someone I loved. It is also easy to say that I would not sacrifice an innocent life just for the sake of someone else. But, to be honest, that is not a question I can answer until I'm faced with the situation."

"That's what this class is for," Vader said a bit snappishly. "Think now, so you can react later."

Molly narrowed her eyes at him. "You can't sit in a room and say, 'yes, I would, no, I wouldn't' to a situation like that," she snapped back. "There are a lot of things to take into consideration that you can't judge just answering a hypothetical question."

"You dare to give me attitude, Miss Hayes?"

Molly stuck her chin out. "You started it."

Oops.

"And I'm ending it, too," Vader snapped. "Detention, Miss Hayes. Enjoy."

He whirled away before Molly could say another word.

Molly crossed her arms over her chest and spent the remainder of the class pouting and glaring at Vader.
